I am planning to use HDTVtoMPEG2 plus ULead Movie Factory 4 (MF4) to transfer some of my recorded HDTV content to DVD. I've run a couple of simple tests, and this seems to give me reasonably good results while staying about as complicated as I want it to get.
However, I have been reading here that HDTVtoMPEG2 has problems keeping video and audio in sync. Is this true of the latest versions? I am running 1.10.6 and plan to update to 1.11-Beta3.
EDIT: I've been in looking into ProjectX for demuxing, but once I have separate MPEG2 and audio (AC3) files, I'm not sure how to combine the two in MF4.

After a little research on the ULead MovieFactory 4 forum, I found a reference to VideoReDo. No, it's not free, but here are 2 features that caught my eye. From VideoReDo Features: (http://www.drdsystems.com/VideoReDo/FeaturesOverview.htm)
- Support for High Definition (HD) program streams.
- Automatic audio/video synchronization compensation for lost or corrupt frames.
Yeah, it's not free, but it sounds like a 1-for-1 replacement for HDTVtoMPEG2 with the bonus of correcting audio/video sync. Has anyone tried this tool?

After much trial and tribulation, I concluded ULead MF4 is the culprit: if I feed it MPEG2 files in HDTV dimensions, it has to resize down to DVD dimensions, and its re-encoding loses audio/video sync. I have found a way around this as follows:
1) Use VideoReDo to cut commercials and convert from .tp to .mpg (MPEG2) format.
2) Use XtreamMPEG to down-size the video.
The thing is, now I really don't need MF4, which I got for its AC-3 "support". XtreamMPEG's output does not have AC-3, so I can feed it into MF3.5. Of course, my sound is now probably two-channel, but this suits my purposes just fine: most of the programs I record are not 5.1 dolby anyway, and I just want a way to transfer some of my HDTV programs to DVD so I can watch them while I'm away from my HTPC (i.e., away on vacation, etc.).
