Any one (programer) intrested in some level of port either to a cross platform language like jave or unix or a full port to OS X...

I use sub rip on a virtual machine but it is very slow...

I have not found a good solution to extracting of srt from vob on the Mac platform and would love to have SubRip on os X...

Is there not an existing application equivalent to subrip that could/would work under linux, and then be ported (if not already) to *bsd, and by extension MacOs X, which is bsd based ?

FFMPEGX (http://homepage.mac.com/major4/) apparently does OCR on dvd subpictures to convert them to text subtitles. As an alternative to porting subrip, you could use this.

FFMPEGX does not handel subpictures well... Or at all in some cases... If it had functionality to remember and store character matrix like subrip does it might be an alternative...

ffmpeg x is my program of choice for video/audio, encode/decoding, ect...
D-vision is my second choice...
Subrip seems to be the best app i have seen for subs...
