Hi, I have a Coby dvd-515 dvd recorder that makes dvd+r and rw disks which play through on all my home dvd players but will only play the first approx. 15 min. on my Gateway m305cav laptop. I connected another dvd player to the laptop (USB) And the same thing, 15min.and stop. The operation manual says "MPEG2 decoding format to achieve horizontal resolution of more than 500 lines" Thank you if you can help. Jim

just a thought here....

what program are you using to play the DVD on your laptop?

if it is not the full version ..some will not play past 15min.

I know WinDVD will not play more than 15min unless you have a registered copy.

could be the problem... or maybe not...

Butch-I did a little searching for specific problems with your laptop, and while I didn't come up with anything, I will take the time to point out a basic posting necessity. Your unit is a "Gateway M305CRV", not a "m305cav". Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could find absolutely no returns for the model you'd listed. Your problem lies elsewhere than your laptop, it would seem, but it's good to be precise when you post information. :)

Are both the DVD+R and the RW'able media hanging up? The reason I ask is that RW'able media is famous for compatibility issues, much more-so than the plus and dash media made by the same manufacturer.

Thank you ammck55 for the time. Both the DVD+R and the RW'able media are hanging up. I think you are right about the model #. It's so small that when I read it off the unit I should have used a magnifying glass (my eyes are going South, I'm over 50). :D
