I'm having problems with AutoGK 1.95 and audio/video sync when streaming to GoVideo Player. I was hoping to post before it went final but I had to wait five days. No biggie... ...It's probably user error..

Anyway, I recently started converting all my movies to XviD. Last week I ran into one movie which wouldn't sync the Audio and Video. So, I updated to the beta versions. That didn't help. I figured the new version had to be better then the old so I kept it. I tossed the DVD, (Problem DVD) to the "piss me off" pile, and continued ripping my collection.

After ripping a couple more, I noticed that they too were not synced. I decided to uninstall the beta and go back to the stable version (1.60) and re-ripped the movies. All better... So, just to be sure it wasn't some fluke, I installed the beta on another system and tried it. The rip wouldn't sync. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere or something. Oh yea, and I did enable ESS Chipset Support during installation.

Phase 2.. Yesterday I noticed that the new version of AutoGK (1.95) went final. I thought, "Hell! lets see if I still have sync issues when ripping". I downloaded the new version, uninstalled all apps associated with AutoGK from the system, (I've read posts where ppl had problem's because they didn't remove XviD) and installed 1.95. I popped in Mission Impossible and proceeded to rip away. When I tried to stream it across the network, (to the GoVideo Player) I had the same sync problem. I tossed the same movie into the other system (running 1.60) and ripped it there. When I streamed it, it worked fine. I used the same exact settings.

So, my question is; is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? I know there is an advanced settings page (Ctrl + F10). I never played with those settings. They are set to default.

I hope I've provided enough information. I have the logs of both rips if that will help trouble-shoot the problem. I haven't had a chance to go through them to see if I can find the problem. Even if I did find something, I wouldn't know how to correct it. So, if the logs will help, you can download them from my FTP (PASV ON).. FlashFXP Quick Connect:

ftp://AutoGK:AutoGK@24.107.237.214:10021

I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has worked so hard on the development of this application. AutoGK kicks ass.. Best program I've used for ripping my DVD's. Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
~DDNA

Check what are the delays produced by 1.60 and 1.95 in the audio file from agk_tmp dir.

Maybe this problem had to do with xvid... Uninstalling/reinstalling xvid seems to fix many problems. Maybe it was his uninstalling of xvid, and not the fact that he upgraded to the stable version that solved his problem.

Synch issues are usually not codec related.

I kind of figured I should have held on to those two folders. I'm going to re-rip again with 1.60 and 1.95. Lets see if I get the same results. Also; I failed to mention that at the beginning of the 1.95 rip the following text appeared:

"This film has been modified from its original version. It has been formatted to fit this screen."

That was the first time I ever saw that text after a movie has been ripped. The 1.60 rip didn't contain the text. I'm not sure if that means anything or not.

Anyway, re-rip time. I'll get back to you guys when It finishes up. Should be done tonight sometime. Watch it work this time. hahaha

Okay, I finally finished that rip project. Just as I susptected, I got the same results as before. AGK 1.60 rip stream's fine but the AGK 1.95 rip has issues when streaming.

I used all the same settings in both rips:

Audio Track: English AC3 2ch.
Output Size: 1/5 DVDR (896MB)

Advanced Settings
Resolution: Fixed 624
Audio: VBR MP3, kbps: 128
Codec: XviD

I placed all the file's from both rips on my server. I'm not quite sure what file I need to look at to check the delay. I noticed that AGK 1.60 created a log (Mission Impossible AC3 T01 2_0ch 192kbps DELAY 0ms.log). AGK 1.95 didn't create this log for some reason. I'm thinking that might be the log I need to check for the DELAY settings.

If you log into my server you can retreive any information you need. There are two folders:

MI.RIP.01.AGK1.60 = ALL AGK 1.60 file's created during the ripping of the movie, (excluding the actual movie). (329MB)

MI.RIP.02.AGK1.95 = ALL AGK 1.95 file's created during the ripping of the movie, (excluding the actual movie). (338MB)

I'm sure you don't need everything... ...I figured I'd dump all the file's there just incase..

P.S. Disregard my preceeding post... That text didn't appear in the second 1.95 rip for some reason..

From what I can see delay is not a problem here as its same in both version. Can you check if AC3 files are the same and what is the duration of resulting mp3 files?

Well this is interesting.. The file size and bit rate are different. I wonder if this is the problem. Also, is there a way for me to change the bitrate in 1.95 (256kbps) to the 1.60 bitrate (160kbps)?

MP3 INFORMATION

AGK 1.95:

192kbps DELAY 0ms
Duration: 1:50:13
Size: 101 MB
Bit Rate: 256

AGK 1.60:

192kbps DELAY 0ms
Duration: 1:50:13
Size: 100 MB
Bit Rate: 160kbps

wow, how come if MP3 file has the same duration and almost size - the bitrate its twice as high?... (espcially if you selected 128kbps manually for both encodes)

Do you mind if I fetch full AC3 from your ftp?

P.S. Are AC3 files identical or not ?

I'm not sure. but I'm pretty sure 1.95 is doing something different than 1.60.. Both rips play fine on the computer... ...Audio/Video sync fine. It's when I try to stream them that I notice the difference. I wish I knew more about this.

I just compaired the file size of the AC3's and they are the same size (151MB).

And... yea I used the same settings with both AGK 1.60 and 1.95 (VBR MP3, kbps 128).

Help yourself to any files you need len0x.

Oh, I missed that. I though asynch is happening on the PC... I'll tell you what's changed: previously AutoGK used BeSweet for audio encoding, now its Azid/Normalize/Lame combo. If its plays fine on the PC - I'm afraid there is nothing we can do...

Major bummer.. :-(

If I understand this correctly; enabling ESS Support durning the installation doesn't matter. I still won't be able to stream it.. ..at least not with the new version (AGK 1.95). And, there is no chance of going back to BeSweet?

If you've move away from BeSweet, is there a way to get the "Azid/Normalize/Lame combo" to work so the movies will stream? I'm assuming thats where the problem is... ...In the audio encoding.

Did you get a chance to look at that AC3 file? Did you find out why there was a differance in bit-rates? Does that have soemthing to do with the reason why the movie won't stream? Any chance of fixing it? I can't think of anymore questions... Well I can, but I don't want to be a pest..

It's no biggie really.. I can stick with 1.60... ...It dose what I need it to. I was just hoping to utilize the "bitspike" feature. I have a couple movies that are choppy at the beginning. I thought that "bitspike" support might fix the problem.

Anyway, I really appreciate you looking into this problem for me len0x.. Keep up the great work m8t..

I would not expect new combo work in a different way than besweet(that uses all the same components but in a DLL version). But now that I think of it - Besweet in 1.65 used lame 3.90.3 while current version of AutoGK usee lame version 3.96.1. May be that makes the difference. You can try getting exe version of lame 3.90.3 from here (http://www.rarewares.org/mp3.html) and replace one inside AutoGK folder.

P.S. you may encounter some other problems with older version of LAME, but at least you can try.
