Saw backups?

Hey guys -

I was wondering if anyone has successfully backed up the movie 'Saw' using IfoEdit? I've tried splitting the disc and the movie goes to 'stopped' about 3 seconds after the play button is pressed.

Any guidance would be sincerely appreciated.

While I haven't used IFOedit to backup this movie, I did use both DVD ReMake Pro and AnyDVD/CloneDVD to do it. In both cases, after pressing Play from the main menu, nothing happens. I just sit there and stare at a blank screen.

While testing the CloneDVD copy, I thought it was a case of several blanked cells playing sequentially (the FBI warnings, previews, etc.) and all I was seeing was that blank space being played out in real time. But even with DVD ReMake, which I know skips over blanked cells, the movie still doesn't start.

However, when I go to Scene Selection and choose the opening credts, the movie plays just fine (both the Cloned ISO and the ReMade ISO). It doesn't answer the question as to why this happens, but it's a workaround. Hope this helps.

Guys,
If I were you, I would try PgcEdit's trace function on that DVD. If playback is broken, chances are you'll see it right away.
Load the DVD in PgcEdit, then use the Trace function to start playback. This will take you through the normal DVD playback process and to the main menu. Then click on the Play button and see where that takes you. If the navigation is broken, you should be able to see where it is, and fix it!

Sweet.

Got it to work via splitting with IFO edit. I realized with the help of PGCEdit that my buttons were not there (in other words, VTS_01_0.VOB was missing).

I then found changing VTS_05_0.ifo - VTS_PGCITI - VTS_PGC_1 - PGC Command table:

Go to Post command and change it to: (CallSS VGM) Call VMG PGC: 5 [Resume cell 1]

Works like a champ!

I am not one with PgcEdit yet - I have a lot of "guide" reading to do. I am just thankful such a tool exists - and is FREE!

In regards to PgcEdit, I'm with scot on this one. Of all the software that I've tried since getting into DVD backup, PgcEdit is the only one that scares the hell out of me :scared: :D ! I know that if I dedicate more time to learning to use it, maybe go through one of 2Cool's or jeanl's guides, I'd get the hang of it...maybe.

But usually DVD Decrypter, DVD ReMake Pro, and DVD Rebuilder w/CCE get the job done for me, so I've designated PgcEdit one of those things "I'll get around to one of these days.":D

Well James, as a dedicated PgcEdit user, who knows exactly where you are coming from, the way I approached PgcEdit was initially the read the documentation.

It gives a very good overview of what the prog can do and sets you on your way. I know this is not the usual way of running with computer progs, but it really helps and doesn't take too long.

Then you can play around with the prog, knowing you can't break anything (if something goes really wrong, just restore your backup).

I have found in fact, that over the past 6 months or so, PgcEdit has got even better in giving messages to users and helping them understand what they might be doing.
