Good deinterlace?

How I can deinterlace interlaced movie? What will be good way?
I'm watching DVD on my notebook with InterMedia WinDVD 5 and I can see really good deinterlace... I'd like to get results like WinDVD does.

Should I turn interlaced movie to 60 fps for really good results? How?

It's not necessary to bob to 60fps unless you have special needs such as format conversion, or want to show slow motion.

Any decent deinterlacer will be fine. For VirtualDub, you might try SmartDeinterlacer or Area-Based Deinterlacer. For Avisynth, you have TomsMoComp, TDeint, (Leak)KernelDeint, FieldDeinterlace, and others.

But also, be sure that you really need deinterlacing and not inverse telecine (IVTC).

winDVD will use the hardware deinterlace available on yojur video card. this is usually a dumb bob, like what avisynth's bob() gives.

if you'd like this kind of deinterlace at playback for content other than DVD, you can make ffdshow do it for you - it'll detect an interlaced flag in any of the formats it can play, and if you use Overlay Mixer and configure it to do so, then it'll do it.

encoding interlaced is the best way to go for most things, unless as DG says, you need to do format conversion or special processing.

deinterlacing is quite fashionable in the video world, and it is my number 1 pet-hate because most deinterlacing done out there is the field-discard type that makes the picture jump up and down on a CRT. it also removes half the temporal and spatial information which you absolutely should not do. Death to Video Fashion!
