Well I've searched and searched on this and I've found some background info. But no one seems to have quite the same problem I have and I can't find a solution.
I'm running a P4 2.8Ghz, 512MB DDR RAM, running Win98SE. When I first tried to encode using Xvid, I was using VDub 1.4.5 and XviD-1.0-09052004. Under this configuration, VDub crashed as soon as it started processing. I also have VDubMod 1.5.10, so I tried that. That seemed to work ok, except that the Xvid stat window wasn't displayed correctly -- the bar graph was bleeding thru into other windows, my task bar, etc.
I've been backing up my TV-on-DVD collection, so I'm compressing a lot of eps. Most of the time,it encodes several eps and then crashes. But when it crashes, it ALWAYS crashes at the start of a new job -- never in the middle of a job. I've been able to catch the error msg a few times. It says that it tried to do "Integer division by zero in module XVIDVFW".
So I searched the forums and tried different versions of Xvid. Koepi's build (1.1.0-Beta1) crashes as soon as it starts encoding, and it gives me the same error msg. I also tried XviD-1.0.3-20122004, but it does the same thing as the 1st version of Xvid I used.
I also tried not overclocking my CPU and pulling the side cover off the computer to aid cooling, but it didn't seem to help. I haven't tried a new coating of thermal grease on the CPU yet, but I don't think that's the problem... if it was an overheating problem, it would overheat after relatively the same amount of time. But mine doesn't do that -- it once encoded for 32hrs straight until it finised the entire queue and didn't have a problem. And then other times, it crashes after an hr. And again, it only crashes at the start of a job -- if it was a heat issue, it should crash at random pts.
