i've discovered that stills, when not present in menus, are processed by cce and the result is not fine for me ...
Why not demuxing thOSE cells and keep THEM untouched?

So... why is it not fine with you? Is there something wrong with them?

i've attached 2 images but they're not visible...
anyway the results is plenty of macroblocks and not very good when the source is already at the compression limit...
The image used for main menu is 66kbyte when demultiblexed...passed trough cce become 33 and i can see a lot of macroblocks, maybe for the red color....
I think is better leave untouched still frames.
Process only images under 500k

I'll look at it.

You would also have to make exceptions for frames that are resized, ie half-d1 and LB 4:3->16:9.

I notice the same problem.
Re-encoded still quality is very poor, probably due to "DVD compliance": max bitrate can't be 9800 kb/s (more or less).
So still are re-encoded in a size of ~40 KB (exactly 1/25 of max bitrate for PAL) even if they DO NOT NEED this kind of limitation: what still is impressed for less than 1/25 second?!?
So consider to not compress segment with less than 10 frames.

Not much. It was a lot of work.
