View Full Version : What does the "seamless angle" flag mean?

I see the seamless angle flag in many menu cells in Men In Black (courtesy of blutach) and in other DVDs.

Since angles are not allowed in the menu domain, what does that flag mean? And even in the title domain, what does the flag mean exactly?
Thanks for any pointer!

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but I've been wondering about this recently. If the title only has 1 'angle' why do some set the seamless angle flag and others don't? Most DVDs seem to use Cell Flags 2,8,8,8,8, etc. with a 10 at the layer break, but how does it differ from a disc which uses 3,9,9,9,9 etc. with an 11 at the break. What is the underlying difference, and are there any ill-effects from switching 3s to 2s, 9s to 8s, etc?

... and are there any ill-effects from switching 3s to 2s, 9s to 8s, etc?not that I was aware of what I was doing, but I ran in such a DVD recently, and switched 3->2, 9->8 -- and the disc is still playable :) I could only assume that (unpicky) players simply ignore this flag (in the menus)?
maybe some gifted person, going by the name of mpucoder, has an answer? -- if only he knew about this thread <gg>

Oh, I've read the thread. Other than from reauthoring or angle-stripping I can't see why the flag would be set if there are no seamless angles. Nor can I really see any use for the flag, it is very redundant.

hmm, so it could be possible that the original source was the "directors cut", and in order to sell more copies of the DVD they strip the "theatrical version" for the initial release (leavin one angle), then use the (former) extended version (two angles) and sell it again?
economy? laziness?

@mpucoder, thanks for confirming what I suspected. Like CirTap, I changed them all on one compilation as a test and didn't notice any ill effects.

The thread started with jean's question about an angle in menu domain, which is not allowed.
There's lots of these "9s instead of 8s" in the titles domain (without ill effect), but it should not be apparent in the menu domain, should it?

Sorry if it's not refer this therad, but the last example of this post (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=715579&postcount=14) uses Cell Flags 3,9,9,9,9,,,,1(at the layer break),9,9,9,,, and I think this has a unique feature like (c) of this another post (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=677159#post677159) i.e. it has one agle but highlighted button is different depend on which title (main movie or extras) is selected.
Sorry if it's not refer this therad (it is not menu).
