DVD Shrink doesn't work on a VobBlanked video

I am trying to backup the widescreen of Monsters, Inc. on a DVD-5. So I have blanked out the fullscreen version with VobBlanker. The resulting size is 4599 MB just over the size of a DVD-5 disc. So I am trying DVD Shrink to just shrink the video a little and not lose much quality. DVD Shrink will load the video but it freezes whenever I click a button (almost any).

It seems to me you have a shrink problem (it's very surprising that any button would make shrink freeze!), not a vobblanker problem. Did you try opening the original with shrink? Does that work?

I don't know exactly why shrink complains about the output created by vobblanker, but did you also try to still your menus as a way to save more space? YOu can easily do that with vobblanker. It will replace motion menus with still menus with or without audio. On monsters inc, you can probably save 200-300MB (from memory, don't quote me on that). This might make it so you don't need shrink...

But I'm sure jsoto will be interested to hear about the problem (although I hear he's very busy this week, so be patient)...

Yes, I can open the original DVD with DVD Shrink. If it does not work, I was thinking of just using ReAuthor mode, but I would like to keep menus. I can try to still the menus.

First time shrink complains in a VobBlanked DVD...

I'd like to have the project file (Menu-->File-->Save as..) and the log file (save as button after the complete run).

If DVD Shrink loads it, there should be no error with the input files.

Have you tried a mock strip (see here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84097))?

Look here (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45726) for possible answers as to why DVD Shrink hangs.

Worst comes to the worst, have you thought about using MenuShrink on your menus? It can save you heaps of space (depending on the size of the menus to begin with).

Got the files, but I do not see nothing wrong...
The input path ("C:\Monsters, Inc\") is not the safest one you can use, because the space and the special chars, but I do not find any error...

Please try:
- Check "Use Input folder" checkbox
- Open your DVD.
- Skip all the VTS, except the VTS04. MArk it as process
- Select VTS04, PGC 01 and blank
- Process!

VobBlanker will run in a few secs. No other VTSs (except VTS04 and VMGM will be modified)
- Check if the DVD works in dvdshrink.
- If not, recover the DVD and check again.

NOTE: To recover the original DVD, move all the files under VobBlanker_backup folder to your input folder.

@blutach I read the mock strip but I have not tried it. I will test it later. I have tried MenuShrink except the menu is only like 60 MB in this movie. I removed the introduction, credits, extras, etc and now the video will fit on a DVD-5.

@jsoto, I renamed the source folder and tried what you mentioned. DVD Shrink worked this time. I tried the playback on the created ISO and it played ... of course the movie was missing.

I will try VobBlanker again on the movie now that it is in a renamed folder.
