How to Convert Videos with Stereo Sound into Video with Surround Sound?

Can somebody pl. tellme how to convert Videos with Stereo Sound into Videos with Surround Sound. I hve tried quite a number of things but nothing is working.

Your question is vague. Do you wish to convert formats or create surround channels for your tracks? Converting Mpeg audio to Dolby Digital (ac3) format is possible. Creating surround channels when there are none, is not possible. You can monkey around and create some rear channel noise but it would be artificial. Some Stereo tracks contain surround info and if its there it will remain.

What I was meaning is that - I have a movie in a VCD format. What I want to do is to convert the audio, which is in sterio, into Surround Sound. Is there any software which will help me in doing this conversion? Hope I make myself clear.

You should check out guides available on Doom9 and elsewhere for demultiplexing (separating) audio from video, then converting the audio to 5.1, then authoring a DVD.

As for the notion that stereo audio cannot be converted to 5.1, I (and many others on this forum) beg to differ. It won't be "true 5.1" in the sense of the sound being recorded by 5 microphones placed for the surround sound and then the ultra-low frequencies routed to the LFE channel. Then again, how many recordings that are sold as "stereo" actually are "true stereo" in that they were recorded with two microphones?

Check out the guide I linked to in my last reply. It lists software, techniques, related resources, etc.

Here are a couple of points to remember: You aren't going to find one piece of software in which you can just load your stereo file and output a finished 5.1 AC3 file ready for burning to DVD. The people on this forum are extremely helpful, but they are quick to tell you to read the guides and use the search function before asking too many questions. You have to be willing to do this work, and then if you have problems, there is always someone willing to help.Good luck.
