View Full Version : Missing m2v file

I used DVD Rebuilder for months and everything worked great. Suddenly I started getting encodes where the audio would continue normally but the video would freeze until a chapter break. These projects were always short of a full DVD size so it was a dead give away. Lately it wouldn't make it through the Rebuild phase without a Run Time Error. I tried unloading and reloading all of the DVD Rebuilder components with no luck. I've wiped out my OS twice and reloaded and still get the same results. I'm getting desperate!! I was trying to backup my Voyager episode disks so I decided to try a movie. Same results... With the latest versions of DVD Rebuilder (.78/.79) I get the following error..
---------------------------
Encoder Error
---------------------------
ERROR: File V01000600006005 shows completed, but no .M2V file exists.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Any ideas what could cause missing m2v files? I never preprocess anything. I rip in File mode and then attempt to DVD Rebuild the files. The only thing that works bullet proof is DVD Shrink but I'm not happy with the quality level, especially on episode DVD's. Is there other information I could provide to help debug this? I would sincerely appreciate any and all advice. I'm reaching the end of my rope!!
Software Versions:
DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0
DVD Rebuilder .79 Pro
DGDecode.dll 1.1.0
CCE 2.67.00.23 (Tried 2.50.01.00 and 2.70.01.04.. no luck)

What encoder are you using?

I'm using CCE SP -- 2.67.00.23 through EclCCE.exe.

I was just watching CCE do it's job and I spotted something else strange. I have it setup to do 3 passes. On one segment it had 10,127 frames to encode. It went through two passes fine but on the 3rd pass it made to around 7,000 and died. Then the next segment started. Ever see anything like that before?

No... but that is extremely interesting. Thanks. Can you tell me the size (in bytes) of your dgdecode.dll file? Please make sure it is the same one to which the setup screen points.

Ok, good. That's the same one I'm using.

Just to point out, also... when DVD-RB gives you that warning -- it doesn't automatically try to fix it. It is just telling you that so you know there is an M2V missing.
I'll go back and see how hard it would be run it through the encoder again if the file doesn't exist.

I'm not sure it's worth your time unless it helps somebody else out. This doesn't just happen on some jobs it happens to me on all jobs now with DVD Rebuilder. It almost seems like something is wigging out CCE and causing it to shutdown early. I tried HC.exe but I ended up with a way undersized (less then 1 gig) result. I had something else strange happen to me last night with DVD Shrink. It produced an undersized (2 gig) result from files that were ran in File mode in DVD Decrypter. I allowed shrink to pull the files directly off the disk and it worked great. Not sure if that has anything to do with this but it was the first time I'd seen it before.

I can tell you something is wrong. I've never seen HC undersize.

I just started an HC job to see what it would do. It behaves just like CCE!! On small segments it makes it through all the frames but on large segments it only makes it through a random amount and then shutdowns like it's done with that segment and moves on. I was monitoring system resources during the process and cpu is at 100% but I'm only using memory about 400 meg of 1 gig available. This is driving me nuts!! I can't for the life of me figure out what could be causing this.

Man... it sure sounds like a decoder problem. Maybe you should delete the dgdecode.dll file, download it again, and point to it again with DVD-RB. What version of AVISYNTH are you using? Do you have a dgdecode.dll or mpg2dec3dg.dll file in the plug-in directory?
Alucard69

In the Avisynth/Plugins directory I have both files MPEG2Dec3dg.dll and dgdecode.dll. I tried going back to MPEG2Dec3dg.dll with no luck. I'll try deleting it all, downloading again and see what happens.

You definitely have the path spelled out in the SETUP screen, right?

I had the same problem with Family Guy S03D01 that one m2v file was missing. So i tried to recode it to no avail it just wouldn't rebuild.
So i tried 2 other dvd9 to dvd5 tools same thing it couldn't finish.
This was with iso made and mounted in daemon tools.
So i tried to slow the reading down read it at 4x it went better but still the missing file.
So i went to file mode and ripped all the files with dvddecrypter with all the protection removers enabled (Don't know if it had anything to do with it).
And ran dvd-rb again with the same settings as allways,
And checked to see if any m2v's are missing but this time they were all there and the rebuild went fine and finished without any problems.
So my thought on this is that somewhere during the decryption process it failed somehow that makes a file corrupt and therefore cce failes to encode it properly.
Haven't had the time to verify this ut it sounds plausible to me.
I will run some tests on this this weekend.
Keep up the good work with the best dvd9to5 tools i tried this far.

While testing my new HC batch encoder got the same error, DVD: Return of the King.
Turned out to be a 1 frame segment: trim(289165,289165) (black frame).
Solved it by using the HC_012 GUI version and encoding that one avs file.
After that the rebuild phase completed OK, final DVD size 4.3 Gb.
DVD-RB version Pro 0.79.

Setup has... Path to Decoder: C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\DGDecode.dll.
No luck on deleting and downloading a fresh copy of DGDecode (downloaded from DVDRebuilder.com). I got the same result. I guess I'll try playing with some of the settings in DVD Decrypter. Other then trying to roll back versions that's about the only tool I haven't messed with yet.

interesting since you said they were in plugins directory, you sure you dont have an old file here and the new one in plugin?

They were originally in the plugins directory. I deleted that one and when I unzipped the new downloaded one I accidentally put it one level up. That copy of dgdecode is unfortunately the only one on my system. I also tried messing around with DVD Decrypter settings but it didn't seem to help. Back to square one..

I finally figured out why CCE was shutting down early. I have an AMD Barton Core 2500+ processor. About a year ago I over clocked it to a 3200+. It's been working great for a year but either it's starting to die or just got tired at running that hot. I put it back to 2500+ and now CCE and DVD Rebuilder are back to working like they should. So if you see CCE shutting down prematurely it could be due to your CPU!!

Last time I cleaned mine I dropped my load temps by about 15C :D

I got the same problem. My cpu temp is OK but i still got that error when it jumps to the encoding part :(. Interesting part is if leave "run encoders minimized" unchecked it pops up CCE with the avs in it but wont start encoding, if i press the encode button if gives me the error msg "ERROR: file xxxxxxx shows completed, but no .M2V file exists.". But if i edit it sometimes let me encode it.....

Thx, i realized that it only happens in that certain DVD and it's a multi-Angle DVD.... solved for the rest but that one still remains

It looks like you may have one of those rare discs that is close to 100% interleaved. You'll have to wait until DVD-RB supports reencoding interleaved sections before it will be able to do that disc. It should be coming in one of the next few Pro versions.
In the meantime, you could use DVD ReMake or one of the freeware packages to get rid of the alternate angle.
CCE is failing because it couldn't possibly create an output file with the bitrates it would require...

Thx alot m8, i'll use one of those options u've mention! In the meanwhile i'll wait for that version of RB to come out:)
