View Full Version : Cell-based video gallery with hundreds of clips?

Hopefully this is in the right forum, but it certainly seems advanced to me. :)

A question for all of you... I have a lot of DV footage from an event that I'd like to put on a DVD to give to friends. The issue is that there are hundreds of small video files for each time the camera was turned on or off, and yet while people are watching, I'd like them to be able to skip forward or back between them (but not pause between them).

Obviously I can create chapters that allow them to skip forward and back (and I plan on doing that for major location or thematic changes), but it isn't appropriate to use that for the clips themselves (due to the sheer number).

My idea is to have each clip as a cell (which I've already done and works well, especially for making multiple pgc paths from the same VOB). Then put BOV over the entire thing (probably with invisible buttons) which then use LinkNextC and LinkPrevC to skip forward and back. Has anyone done anything like this before? A button should be able to call LinkNextC right? Also, to get the BOV, I'd either need to mux the subpictures into every clip before making the vob or else make one long clip, mux subs for the whole length, then manually specify the cell times right? And since it uses Next/Prev, I should be able to have one set of buttons over the entire length right?

I "think" BOV is possible now with a combo of DVDAuthor and the latest PGCEdit, but even if not, I'd like to make sure this sort of thing was possible for me in the future.

Thanks!
Shawn

you could also create each one as a cell and just not assign it to a chapter....

that way they would play back to back but not be assigned to a chapter...

Yeah, that is true, but the thing is that I'd like to be able to move between the individual clips (via the arrow keys like in an image gallery) instead of just relying on fast forward or rewind. Since chapters are ruled out for that purpose (since I'd need too many), my main question is just on the viability of moving back and forth between individual cells via buttons over the video.

I just made something similar, tough not video footage but stills (as slideshow), works like charm. But one advantage i have over you is i know all my still are x length so i can make a script for importing assets as tracks and cells. Saves shitloads of work top say the least. Your problem will be inserting chapter points and making buttons for them (this is one helluva work even if you copy-paste the buttons themselves).

For the technical thingie: yes, make your buttons auto-action, left/right link for linkcn [prev]/[next], highlight button = [a not auto action button] and youre done. Might have to try it a few times. Do some copy on the tracks/cells and paste them notepad or somethibng similar to see what u can automate.
