View Full Version : AutoGK using 7-zip instead of WinRAR

It would be better if AutoGK used 7-zip instead of WinRAR. 7-zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) is open source, can compress to .rar, and has a command-line interface as well. I hate having to install another archiver just to have external subtitles :/

what a meaningful exchange :)

About 7-zip - are you sure that its able to compress in RAR? Coz its a proprietary format and I would be surprised if that was the case.

Hi,

No, 7-Zip does NOT compress to RAR format. I've just checked. One thing I haven't tested is if VobSub can decompress other formats (for example a .bz2 renamed to .rar). I'll check it later at home.

i should but i dont care...

maybe its unrar.dll that makes the difference (meaning u dont need to install other software...)

Oh yes, silly me. 7-zip can only decompress rar... Very inconvenient... There are many open compression algorithms, too bad vobsub only supports rar :(.

(sorry, although this isn't a thread about subs, but, still, we're discussing subs at the moment...)Is there any other software that can do exactly what vobsub can?

Regards.
