View Full Version : How to get antialiased subs with new spumux?

I grabbed the latest copy of DVDAuthorGUI because I saw that it contained the newest dvdauthor binaries. I'd read that the current alpha of spumux can generate antialiased subtitles, but the gui hasn't added any option for this, and the manpages for spumux haven't been updated. I know it's still in an early stage, but would like to try it out and see the results all the same.
Can anyone tell me how to set up antialiasing in the xml file?

Hi liquid217. It says it here: http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=41492 (at the end of the February 9th changelog entry).
I did a search through the mailing lists on sourceforge but the last mention of antialising there was near the end of last year. Puzzling. I got my first taste of dvdauthor with this program and was very impressed, then I found your GUI and grew to love this suite. This is probably the only critical feature it lacked (for me at least).
Hmm. Actually now that I read it more closely it sounds more like The Mask might have added this feature to spumux himself, rather than it being in the alpha build in general. Sorry for the confusion.

From what I understand, it is not version specific. Rather, its code that was commented out because it was too buggy. It is mentioned here:

Ah, well spotted. I guess if it worked well it wouldn't have been commented out.
I can live without it for now anyway as the subs don't look that bad, just wanted to try it out and see.

I compiled the alpha code with anti-aliasing turned on. Simply download this package and replace the files in the 'bin' folder. Be forwarned that the default font size in the gui will produce some nasty artifacts. Try a font size of '36'.

Great! I had tried to compile it in MinGW but couldn't find a tarball for libz.
I tried it with my usual font (Trebuchet MS) at 28 and 36 and still had artifacting. Even if it was clean at 36 that's very big for a subtitle font. I guess that's why they have the code commented out for now.
Still, it was great to try it out at last. Thanks for compiling it :)
