Decoding Nero Recode made content.

I recently decided to switch to Nero Recode for my DVD backups, after seeing its remarkable success in doom9's comparison. As a test, I encoded three DVDs. The quality is indeed superior, however, I am rather confused: is Nero Showtime the only player I can use to decode Nero's AVC stuff?

I tried decoding it in mplayer, it told me the length of the file was zero and got interrupted with signal 11.

Am I stuck with Nero's player now, or am I just doing something terribly wrong?
