It seems they only offer the encoder and a player, not the codec itself. I really hope this is just ftm.

They say :" DVD quality in 700MB.". They totaly discredit themselfs by doin that IMHO, or they are targetting the same audience than divx/mp3...

Quality sucks @ 700 kbps.

Anyway .... I can no longer play my AVC encoded movie (x264) on DS Movie Player namely BSplayer and MPC. They sure did something that prevents AVC encoded movie from play back on DS Movie Player. FYI, the same movie played on another PC flawlessly.

I had ffdshow uninstalled and re-install to no avail.

Appreciate some pointers to fix this.

Update:-
AVC (x264 encoded) in AVI seems to work fine but not in mp4 container.

Fixed:-
Restore entry in registry

scorpdt just regsvr32 /u their mp4 parser and regsvr32 the nero one you don't need to change anything in the registry for that, and i agree the quality is not compareable especialy in detail preservation terms, with XviD but it is very fast and who knows maybe they gonna improve the rest also :)

When I uninstalled it I coudln´t reproduce my ASP, AVC at all.

@MSlv i don't know what you understand as codec, but im currently encoding a test to hdx4 using vfw in VDM - so it ist totally locked up like some other encoders are.

[edit] maybe setting the hdx4 decoder merit from high down to normal helps, but i can't check since i dont have mp4 files ..but in avi/mkv i don't have problems this way

Do you call an encoder and player a codec? I know I don't...

then how about calling hdx4_dshow.dll plunged into the system32 folder a codec. It is a vfw encode and a direct show decoder. Maybe it also does direct show encoding. I think this one file is pretty close to my definition of a codec. The other files i wouldn't care about :)

just did a quick encode of an episode off a dvd and it is quick. i compared it to an xvid encode (same bitrate xvid 302meg, hdx4 304meg), and well xvid to my eyes was better Q. but at higher bitrates i think this is an ok quick codec that plays just fine on my standalone rjtech800, so did the xvid avi.

No. It's a competitor to DivX and Xvid.

It isn't that quick if you turn on all the goodies, but it's bearable

I'd need to test more to blab on about quality, but as for the interface and ease of use, I'd like to say that I find it very good, clear and easy to use.(Probably the easiest to navigate GUI I've seen so far)
The rate control window resembles uncannily XviD's though ;)

I particularly appreciate the directshow filter priority slider, in full view. Some companies could learn a lesson from that one.

PS: the help file for post-processing is in german regardless of the language chosen.

Please help me to roll back to properly working nero recode setting.

I installed HDX4 and uninstalled as I find it ti not as much good as I thought. The problem is that I can not play mp4 file anymore and even there are some problems in the resultant nero recode encoded file. How can I go back to the initial state of nero recode?

This HDX software definitely messes up some registry entries.Before reinstalling NVE (maybe), try what Cruncher said :

1. Go to Start>> Run.
2. Type in: cmd (or command) [Enter]
3. You will now be in the DOS command prompt screen:
* To install/register the file type in: regsvr32 file.dll or regsvr32 file.ax (where 'file' is your file name) [Enter]
* To uninstall the files type in: regsvr32 /u file.dll or regsvr32 /u file.ax (where 'file' is your file name) [Enter]
4. A message should be displayed confirming that you've successfully registered or unregistered the file.


Example: regsvr32 "c:\program files\common files\ahead\dsfilter\ndparser.ax" <-- nero's mp4 parser

This codec has an extremely long way to go. Way too much noise in the background. No way I would use this for any serious archiving.

Im not sure but I think my encodes in Recode may be using this codec now for mpeg-4 non-avc. Can anyone confirm this.

It's definitively NOT the same ASP codec. HDX4 and Nero are in no way related.

I am sorry, the filter merrit was too high. With the next update this will be fixed.

Hi I just tried this new codec for real-time encoding from a TV-card (Medion, Phillips SAA7134 chip).
And it works realy good. You have to increase the bitrate from 700 to at least 2500 - then it encodes nicely, without too many macro-blocks.
And still it manages without dropped frames.

With the same settings in Virtualdub it can encode with 90fps which is very fast in my system.

Also I had the problem that you had to reduce the merit of the decoder from "high" to "preferred" after that I had no problems with this codec.
