View Full Version : Possible causes for video freeze while audio continues?

Subject says it all. What could cause this type of behaviour? I was able to use DVD-RB and RB-Opt (great util!) with CCE to do some serious compression. Everything seemed absolutely perfect, but there are a couple points in the film where the video just freezes totally, but the audio continues as if nothing happened. Then after 30 seconds or something like that, the video suddenly turns back on, but it's in sync with the audio (so basically it jumps forward to where it should be). This happens in play, as well as in fast forward/rewind.

I suspect this may have to do with shared cells between titlesets. I used DVD Shrink to "blank" (replace with still image) some extras, but later noticed that a lot of the extras were actually phantom extras because when I turned on "Combine Shared Titles" I realized they were part of the main movie. That was what was causing DVD-RB to fail on the prepare phase.

So this time I left those no compression (in Shrink), compressed the menus, and used "still image" on some crap extras. I wonder if this freezing has something to do with that.

Also, something fishy -- when encoding, I noticed there were like 900 or so .m2v files being created, all with 33KB file size -- all containing just a frame (it seems) of the graphic that says "this video has been removed" from DVD Shrink's still image option. That's abnormal, isn't it? Why isn't the program just creating one video file for each cell blanked in this manner? Or maybe DVD Shrink is rather crude in implementation and its still image blanking method actually creates a whole "cell" for each frame that the image is on the screen.

Anyway I was wondering if this may have been related to that strange video freeze.
