Hi,

With the amount of adverts and trailers on this dvd I really need to start at the main menu which I would like to keep.

Can anyone tell me how to use one of the tools designed for this job to do what I want, as I have tried simply 'blanking' out the offending vts and this causes the dvd to crash in Ifoedit and my dvd player.

Thanks in advance.

you can use PGCEdit. see 2cool's guides (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=244793#post244793) on how to do this.
Or you can use vobblanker. guides here (http://www.videohelp.com/~jsoto/guides.htm).
you can also check out the help file it has lots of info too.
have fun.

The guide by 2COOL is this one (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/jump2pgc/Jump2Pgc%20Guide.htm), which uses a tool that 2COOL wrote just for that.

Wow, thanks guys.

Seems a bit complicated but I just have to get rid of that terrible VIDEO_TS.VOB and the endless adverts/trailers.

Is this the only way to go, I am a newb at this sort of thing you see?

Anyway, thanks again.:)

Well, the easiest way for that is to blank out the whole titleset which you can do in pgcedit (if you're sure there's nothing you want in VIDEO_TS.VOB). Open the DVD in PgcEdit, select the VMGM at the top, right-click and select "blank out all menu PGCs".
This will replace video_ts.vob with a tiny 10kB file and whatever was in there will be GONE. Previews are usually in their own titleset, and you can follow the same procedure (use the preview to make sure you're not blanking something you want to keep - use Preview Full Domain).

Well, I owe you guys big thanks. :)

It worked a treat, so much so that this backup is much better than my original!

It jumps straight to the main menu bypassing ALL of about 10 mins worth of adverts/trailers.

So thanks guys and thanks for PGCEDIT.:D

you only scratched the surface with PgcEdit! Once you start using that stuff, it gets more and more fun! ;)

Don't forget to look at VobBlanker! You might find its interface less intimidating, although you won't have any control over the flow of the DVDs playback and commands. But, you can blank at the cell level! PgcEdit can also "blank" by cell by pointing to a new blank VOB cell that it appends. It won't save any disk space, but it will get the job done. They are both great programs. In fact, check out all of jsoto's tools... they are invaluable.

Only if you remove an entire titleset (i.e., video_ts.vob, video_xx_0.vob or all the video_xx_1.VOB, video_xx_2.VOB, video_xx_3.VOB, etc).
