View Full Version : Why no mp4 support from vlc

Hi,

my question is, why does vlc do not the final step for mp4 support? You can see that the player realises the audio streams and you can select them. You can see that the player realises the video streams and you can select them. I can select the subpicture stream, but I see nothing. I can see the navigation possibility and I have always chapters in my mp4 files - but I canīt select them. Would be nice to have a player with mp4 support.

from my point of view vlc (latest svn) should already support audio and video in .mp4
timed text subtitles should be supported, but somehow it doesnt work, and the guy who worked on it, fenrir, didnt fix it since he left to ateme
nero's chapters are not defined by mpeg-4, so they will be nowhere supported, except on nero-related stuff, until someone reverse engineers them...

So what can we do to see the subs? Waiting for 3ivx or hoping for vlc. Any Ideas?

i also didnt ask the realplayer devs till now why their implementation doesnt work, but i will do this soon

latest VLC snapshots should offer a decent mp4 support:

Haali from the Matroska Team, has written a nice mp4 DirectShow splitter combined with ffdshow it can handle AAC, ASP, AVC ... well everything you need:
