Here's an idea which may not have been thought of before. Over the past few weeks I've been listening to the director/writer commentary tracks from the Lord of the Rings extended editions during my daily commutes.
I use DVD Decrypter to rip & demux the track to an AC3 file, BeSweet to transcode AC3 to MP3 then BeSplit to make separate tracks, each around half the length of a single commute. I then copy the tracks to my cheap 128MB USB/MP3 fob and play it in the car via a cheap tape adapter. (The MP3 player doesn't have a fast forward, so I make the tracks shorter than the full commute time in case I don't finish a track.) Each ~2 hour DVD almost fills 128MB at the default bit rates.
Fortunately, the commentary hasn't been too screen specific so I can generally follow what they are talking about. There are also very few gaps where they aren't talking. I have a feeling that some of the other tracks may not be as good in these aspects.
But, I've now been able to listen to Peter Jackson et al talk about making LotR without having to spend 12 hours of my limitted free time actually watching the movies again.
I've also listened to the soundtrack from Empire Strikes Back. Unfortunately my car doesn't have Surround Sound.
