Top and bottom of picture missing...?

I've done tons of encoding with gknot and divx. I decided to switch over to this open-source codec instead. :-)

I've tried and tried, but every time I encode, I get both the top and bottom part of the picture missing. I've tried playing with the aspect ratios in gknot and xvid, and that doesn't seem to help.

I'm sure you guys know all about that, right? ;-)

Any help would be very appreciated, thanks, and thanks for this great codec! :-)

which version are you using ? be sure to use the latest stable : 1.0.3

use also latest Gknot version : 0.35.0

try to encode without any crop, normally you must have no part missing.

Thing is, all I have on my HD right now is full DVD rips, no dvds hanging around here, they're all somewhere safe. Is there a way to split the VOBs so as to use just a part of it?

Why splitting the vobs? Use the avisynth trim() function to encode only a part of the movie.

Sorry about my lack of knowledge... I just use the things to do very standard movie encoding, so I'm lost here... Pointers?

"Open the movie.avs file
Add Trim(0,50000), for example"?

yes, you got that right .You can test with even a few frames if all you're going to do is check the crop.

Trim is actually there in the avs gk script, you need only fill the frame numbers.

Actually everything was OK all along... But it just so happened that the first movie I encoded with XviD was one of those that have the first few frames - you know the Interpol warning about copyright and stuff - in "fullscreen" whereas the movie is in letterbox... And of course, my crop was made for the movie, so that the top and bottom of these warnings were cut off...

I re-encoded the movie 4 times, plus I don't know how many times of the first 1000 frames before I realized what was going on...

The warnings shouldn't be in the movie. Try ripping in DVD Decrypter's IFO mode next time. Could have saved yourself a lot of wasted time, and the rest of us reading a useless thread.

I agree with Spyn; until you know what you're doing, use AutoGK.
