View Full Version : Problems with encoded AC3 file (header?)

I followed the guide above (how to properly encode...) to encode a 2-channel, 48000kHz WAV into a 192kbps AC3 2.0 file, using Acid Pro and the 5.1 plugin.

However there seems to be a problem with the output file:
DVDAuthorGUI says the .ac3 file is unrecognisable.
VirtualDubMod says it's not a valid AC3 file.
Headac3he says it doesn't have the correct header.

DVDlab will load the file and doesn't complain, but it seems to be about 1 second too short. (The original WAV was exactly the same length as my MPV file).

PowerDVD and my standalone both play the authored DVD, and the audio sounds fine, but it is out-of-sync.

I previously tried encoding a short 1 minute sample, and although I got the same error message from DVDAuthorGUI, the muxed vob from DVDlab was in perfect sync.

Well if you use the BeSplit option to convert a Dolby-Digital-WAV into a standard AC3 file the output file does seem to have the correct header. (The guide doesn't make it clear that the output from the Acid Pro plug-in is not a standard AC3 file; or maybe there was something I did something wrong.)

However, the corrected AC3 file is still a different length to the WAV as originally inserted into Acid. Is this caused by the AC3 plug-in or BeSplit?
