I think it's about time this encoder is added to the MPEG-4 FAQ as an MPEG-4 encoder :D Sure, it's not great, and certainly nowhere near XviD/NeroDigital, but at the very least, it can encode fully compliant MPEG-4 files... from what I've noticed.

I was under the impression that PSP only could decode AVC and ATRAC-3, but I guess it's backwards compatible :D I don't know if it's self developed, but it works in Quicktime and VLC as it should... that is, like any other MPEG4 compliant *.mp4 file. I'm fairly sure that XviD+AAC works on a PSP, as should Nero Digital. Have one thing in mind though, a PSP needs to have every *.mp4 file properly named, following a specific file name. For example: PSPMOVIEXXX.mp4 and the X's would be numbers, like 001, 002 and so on. Otherwise it won't work.

This iPSP: can I use it to process my DVD-movies into mp4-contained mpeg4 files?
If so, is there a guide somewhere?
Regards.

Regards. I guess, however, I wouldn't use it. It might be a lot of hassle for you if you don't know how, but I'd recommend you to learn how to master XviD, then just use BeLight for the AAC with the Nero DLL files, and mux it all together with mp4box. Much better way because of quality etc. Also, you get to feel more 1337 h4xz0r this way :D

You sound like an ordinary human being, not an expert-but-sane technologist like Mr bond, or a whiz-kid like Mr Elias. The article you pointed at was helpful.

I believe this is what you were talking about bond. imo really stupid move of Sony. It just limits their PSP of having full MPEG-4 mp4 compliance.

The deal with the PSP is what it allows where. What I mean by that is that AVC/H.264 can only be played back via the UMD drive. MemoryStick can only playback MPEG-4 SP/AAC. On top of that, Sony has imposed the pixel count not to exceed 76000 for MPEG-4 SP. That really sucks when you have a 480x272 resolution screen. I guess Sony doesn't want people ripping DVDs and putting them on MemoryStick instead of buying the UMD version of the film. I still love my PSP though :)

What's the max resolution for MPEG-4 SP? Like, 320x240 etc? I still understand why they did it. And for the movie industry part, that was a smart move.. or pretty obvious one. But it sucks for us consumers :)

Sorry, 76000 pixels. Yeah, that means that 368x208 (widescreen) or 320x240 (4:3 material) is the limit.

Did you guys hear about this?
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20050107/ces1.htm
The article and the pictures show the PSP decoding AVC from the memory stick...
The article is in japanese but babelfish will help you get an idea of what it is about.
At least it looks like it is possible, now I have no idea if it means that AVC will be redable from memory sticks on standard PSPs with future firmwares upgrade. fingers crossed...

(I forgot to mention that I found that link on pspvideo9's forum : http://www.pspvideo9.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4)
Would that mean that just one particular format of memory stick would decode AVC? sounds weird... Anyone got one of those memory stick duo pro?
or the fact that the psp mentionned on this page were boxed would tend to think that they were actually decoding the AVC from the UMD:devil: ?

Isn't it about time that PSP got its own section here in the Doom9 forum? I think it deserves it because clearly, whilst it may be a gaming console, it's is nonetheless a digital video/audio portable handheld.

I suppose that these "memory stick pro duo" will be compatible only with the PSP.
That would be interesting that it is recognized by the computers or portable computer last generations, like cards 8 in 1.
What you think about it?

i have a Memory Stick Pro Duo. Sony in its wisdom somehow decided to make it so that you can't play ATRAC3/plus (not that i'd ever use that format) on them. only MS Duos. SSDD with Sony, as usual.

On the other hand, Sony might very well update the PSP's firmware with new upgrades. One thing they definitely should upgrade the firmware with is the capability to play the *.mp4 files without the need of *.thm files, and the ability to use whatever file name and folder there is, instead of being forced to put the files in specific folders.
