so i've been looking all over for information from users but i haven't been very successful.

i'm trying to figure out if you can open xvid mpeg-4 muxed (or 3gpp remuxed/flattened) files with the PSP.

also trying to figure out if the videos HAVE to be 480x272 or if will just do a cute little stretch of the video.

and if they HAVE to be 480x### or if they can be higher (640x480 f.ex)

all i know of beyond the specs of what it plays (mp3, aac, h264, atrac) is the existence of the Sony Image Converter 2(.1) (http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Nws/Software_dl/Pc/Software/Haa/2105710294200.html) altho i haven't been able to try it out.

i find TMPGEnc being advertised on that page pretty amusing... :p

i've been holding out on an mp3 player with expandable memory so i can lock myself into one memory format and especially one that has a usb interface (or adapter) that i can hook up to the company computers here and most other usb-enabled computers with no drivers needed...

480x273(272 in doc)
video on MSD:
mp4 container format
video:mp4v MPEG-4 MainProfile @Level3
max 768000 pixel(must)
max 768k bps(can do cheat)
frame 14.985/29.97(15/30)
audio:aac
preview image:jpeg formats filename with THM extension

when check NeroRecode's mp4v codec "make QuickTime Compatiable",
then produce the nero mp4 with QT3gpflatten and atomchange,it can play in PSP.

it seems avc only can use in UMD movie,MSD be limited by sony.
or some firmware someday futher released can remove these "bug".

I knew sony's MPEG-4 would suck in PSP. Why does commercial MPEG-4 always suck so much? I have seen lots of handhord camcorders that record to 320x240 simple profile mpeg-4 cbr at their highest quality mode, and now this! It can't even decode freakin ASP!!

Unbelievable.

It's like those damned dvd players that are "MPEG-4" compliant, but in fact they only play ASFs...

Why the hell cant someone make a nice little portable player that has ffdshow?? :)

Because that wouldn't push there media format agenda, imo companies dont like asp at all. Except fo divx networks that is, but they have an agenda too so its basicly a moot point. Most companies like sony (A) arent interested in asp (B) don't have any good asp implementations of there own and (C) Have proprietary media formats that they would rather promote.

uhm, have you even seen a PSP, let alone a PSP game? i somehow doubt PSP AVC sucks .. and won't believe either way until i see a unit. the proof is in the pudding, and the pudding hasn't set yet.. at least here in the States, as well as EU...
