hi to all.
i wanted to do some test to see, what will be quality diference between the tree. and i wanted to see the encoding speed of tree.
source file is:
Pic Video MJPEG quality at 18 = 384x288 25fps, 146 MB, 1 minute file.
so i first encoded this file into real video (8,9 and 10) at same resolution, all same setings, variable bitrate at 500kb/s and maximum bitrate at 1500kb/s.
when encoding finish, i first wanted to see the diference in quality betwen the tree used codec.
there was NO diference to my eyes.
how i was looking ? i opened rv 9 file in media player clasic, and rv10 in windows media player 9, and i looked at frames to see the diference, i looked at many point, but there was no diference.
speed of encoding varies, the results:
rv8 = 2.36
rv9 = 2.02
rv10 = 3.31
then i was trying to see if was my fault, and i tried to encoding at 300kb/s and results was about same, so i asked myself, why real video 10 ???????
what have better than real video 9 codec ??
real video 9 codec is fastest of the tree, and all the tree have same quality, so i dont understand, why rv10 nedeed so much more time ?????
i recomend all people to encode in rv9 codec, cause is faster and have same quality as rv 10.
maybe i was doing something wrong ?
then i tryed to do another test, this time only with rv9 to see, the diference in encoding time if my source was Mjpeg file or divx5 file, and i see that if my source was divx, the video encoded about 12 seconds faster.

In fact, you have 2 codecs: RV8 and RV9. RV10 is a boosted version of RV9, mostly compatible. RV10 is slower but gives up to 30% quality boost at same bitrate. I don't know about RV8, I never tested it. Could you please post your files so I can compare?

On my side, I've noticed the quality boost from RV9 and RV10. It's not comparable on anime content, just SO better :D. Sharper image, more details preserved... even MPEG4 artefacts (preserved) :rolleyes:

ehm i cant post these clips here (because there is one girl, almost naked, sorry heh)
but i will save new clip from tv tuner, and convert it now, and post link to clips.

RV10 = RV9 EHQ. See this thread for some of the feedback and results when it came out:

Of course, everyone's results and eyes are different, but the improvement is always measurable, and in a great majority of cases also visual. If RV9 is good enough for you, stick with it. If you want the best quality, spend the extra time to encode in RV10.

500kb/s constant bitrate was used this time, and i used no audio.
other setings are default ones:
encoding complexity: high
maximum startup latency: 4.00 seconds
maximum time betwen key frames: 10.00 seconds
loss protection: off
2 pass video encoding was used.
video mode: normal motion video
can you help me to improve something with these setings ? i dont know much of what they mean.

i was looked at these two new clips, and the are almost no diference, hm, i will stick with rv9 (because i have Axp 1800mhz) and i need speed...

If you want speed, I'd say use RV10 with EHQ 50/85 (high in realanime) or 50/75 (medium in realanime). I'm sure your GUI does the 2 pass with same EHQ, which is 1.5-2 times slower than optimized EHQ. I suggest you give a try to RealAnime (2.25). It's up to date with latest RV codecs as well as the speed improvement for EHQ.

P.S. RealAnime 2.25 use bitrate as total bitrate. Set to 500 with no audio will be encoded at 500, but if you have audio, bitrate will be 500 - audio bitrate. This is changed in RealAnime 3.0. Don't download 3.0 RC1, it's buggy like hell :rolleyes:

Sirber: tnx to help. i will use RealAnime for anime/cartoon encoding, but for other type of encoding is RealAnime good ?
i just want to thanks developers of Real Video and Real Audio codec, because its my favorite, it use small file size, its very good quality, the only think that i dont like is this: video encoding times are very high, compared to divx 5.
with divx 5 i get around 40-60 fps, with RV i get around 15-20 fps (in small resolution)... but its true that with RV i get better quality.

rv9 = 1.33
rv10 = 2.40
im interested if Real encoding will suport dual-cpu or dual-core pc ? and how much is diference betwen one cpu and two ?

Re useThreads : this is no longer needed. If you have a dual CPU, you could set useThreads to 0, but there is no advantage, it will just run slower, so this is good only for debug purposes. With regards to hyper-threaded P4s : I detect this, and actually disable threading, due to cache contention causing slightly lower performance with two codec threads on hyper-threaded systems. True dual CPU systems rock though, almost twice the speed of single CPU systems.

URL updated. RealAnime is just a name! With 2.25, you can encode any dshow readable source. With 3.0, you can encode MP4, OGM, MKV and DVD.
