I know this is just speculation until I get my hands on a test file, but supposing my player CAN do this, do my player's settings look okay?

Audio Tab Options (Pioneer DV-434) (* indicates my settings)
----------------------------------

Dolby Digital Out

* Dolby Digital
Dolby Digital > PCM

DTS Out

Off
* DTS

96Khz PCM Out

96Khz > 48Khz
* 96Khz

MPEG Out

* MPEG
MPEG > PCM

Digital Out

* On
Off

-----------------------------------

Thanks in advance for ANY reply...

Download the 5.0 test file from my posting in this thread and test.

Your player must be able to output in MPEG RAW mode. Then via digital link an external MPEG-2 audio decoder can decode the mc tracks.

With BeSweet you can convert tracks into 5.1 mc audio wav.
Then encode with the free Philips encoder PubEnc.exe to 5.1 mp2.

This method is known for a while. Use the search function.

I know perfectly well what my player is SUPPOSED to do.:D
Since I cannot find a LIST of compatible players ANYWHERE in these forums or anywhere on the net for that matter, I thought the next step would be to find a test file.

The insinuation that I haven't been using the search function is extremely frustrating as I have been searching for about the past 72 hours and have been able to find nothing. I'm going BLIND from searching, so please excuse the attitude. Your method may have been known for awhile, but it's not a "method" that I'm looking for.:rolleyes:

I have found links to test files all over the place, test files that require nothing more than burning to a disc (I mean, complete with dummy video...everything...no muxing, no encoding, no bs), but ALL of these links are dead. Since these files existed at some point, I just can't believe that I can't find one...

Also, I don't want a 5.0 test file, I want 5.1. (Too anal, I guess, but I need to hear a test signal coming from my subwoofer).

So...
My Pink Floyd: The Wall dvd has an excellent 5.1 calibration option in it's menu, with DISTINCT channel separation (no bullets, no left surround coming out of other speakers because of bugs). My question is: can I make a test SVCD with video and mc5.1 out of this? If so, how? I need specifics. Not a newbie, just not an expert either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will post the file after it's creation so that other non-experts can easily test their players as well, without having to create their own file. Or can someone make this file and post it?

Now, the rumors all over the net about which players can do this (mc5.1) do NOT just mention Philips, but also Pioneer, Apex, and Samsung.
The reason that I posted an approximation of what my player's audio menu looks like (and what my current settings are) is that the manual does not adequately explain some of the functions (such as being able to choose MPEG or MPEG>PCM). To me, it seems like my player can export MPEG RAW, but maybe I'm just hoping... Having an MPEG OUT option at all gives me hope.

Also, If I'm just completely full of BS about all of this, would someone please point me in the right direction? :confused:

Greetings from Canary Islands.

In http://www.licensing.philips.com/ordering/soft/documents343.html you will find a lot of both mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 mc test streams, fyi.

I have a BIG problem trying to get this to work. I have I-Authot 1.0 Deluxe. I make the SVCD image and save it as a .CIF file. But that's as far as I get. None of the image file handlers/convertors will do anything with it. Open it in ISObuster 1.0 and you can read it but not do anything else. No options are available to convert it, extract or anything? CDMage won't open it full stop nor will WinISO 5.3

Any ideas?

I am NOT installing EZCD on my system. Thanks.

I have similar problems using I-Author when creating CIFs and trying to convert to CDMage. I-Author is very picky about the type of source files you give it and the bitrate used. However in my case, I'm sure the problem is how I'm using it, but it's not really worth the frustration of messing with .cif files when you don't have to.

Try muxing with I-Author but select PS instead of MPS near the bottom. This creates 3 files, one of which has a .ps extension (Program Stream) which is bascially a mpeg file. Rename it to a .mpg file and you can then use your favorite proggie to create an image and burn to disk. Works for me.

good luck

That works but Nero won't accept it when I drag it over in SVCD mode. It gives an error in SVCDoc something or other.

Hmm. Well I tried muxing with TMPGenc latest and it created a file that Nero would burn with compliance off. Tried with a Toshiba SD-210E and no sound in DD mode. Oh well.

Nero has problems with this king of stuff. However you shld use the seraach buttom and read the Q&A where you will find all teh answers to how to successfully burn an SVCD to avoid all problems. I recommedn the Daemon Tools method as it's never faled me.

Good luck

Erm...this does not help. Daemon tools is a virtual cdrom util. I read the thread about how to use it to copy SVCD from a .cue/bin file etc. But the problem is in creating the SVCD image in the 1st place. If you mux the MC MPEG2 audio file and a SVCD. Where do you put it to make it a SVCD compliant image? Nero has SVCD import and create an image and then burns it. What other tools are available? I-Author gives me a .CIF image but nothing I have found will convert the resulting file. I tried burning it with EasyCD 5.1 (I installed it out of desperation) and it did not complain when burning the image. But when I tried to access the disc in the re-writer I had just burned it in it could not access the disc.

So my problem remains. How do I create an MC SVCD image and burn it to CD so that it does not get messed up (Which everyone says Nero does).

And when is someone going to make a 100% tested and working MC MPEG2 SVCD image file? The only one I have seen so far is the Eclipse dudes but they said it's not 100% (Not rear channels or something)? I also looked at the site with lots of test MPEG files at Philips but it confused me even more. I did not know which was which and the PDF file was no help whatsoever.

I agree with a previous poster. Someone post a *WORKING* .CUE/BIN of a test MC MPEG2 SVCD so we can all tell whether we are wasting our time pursuing this or not. I don't know why Doom9 didn't post that instead of just the audio file.

Try using VCDEasy to make the SVCD bin file instead of Nero. I believe there is a working SVCD file recently posted that should do the trick for you. Use the search button.

It's all well and fine to tell someone to use the search function but everyone is referring to it as MC SVCD and the search function does not allow less than a 3 letter search criteria so MC SVCD will not work. SVCD will result in tons of threads not related.

Some times ago (november) I posted in this tread a MPEG-2 mc audio test file!
Download, mux with a picture and create a SVCD. That's all.
I use bbMPEG, TSCV 0.84, CDRAO.

The file was 5.0 but now we have BeSweet and that converts ac3 files into 5.1 aiff. After that you encode with Philips pub_enc.exe.
