View Full Version : Connecting DVD player to HDTV via HDMI - is DVD DAC used ?

I'm looking for a DVD player with HDMI output to connect to a Plasma TV.
There are several models that I am comparing. One critical factor in DVD player
quality is the type of DAC used. DAC's with more sampling bits and higher sampling
rates usually perform bigger and cost more. Now, since the HDMI interface is all-digital
(no analog conversion), do I need to be concerned with the DVD players DAC's?

How much do you want to spend? As sadly such players tend to be quite expensive!

Anyway... here's what I could find for you...

Players fitted with "HDMI" only are: - Arcam FMJ DV29
Onkyo DV-SP1000E
Pioneer DV-668AV-S
Pioneer DV-868AVi
Players fitted with an "DVI" only are: - Denon DVD-1910
Denon DVD-A11
Samsung DVD-HD935
Players fitted with "HDMI" and "DVI" are: - Arcam DIVA DV79
Denon DVD-2910
Denon DVD-3910
Meridian G98
Meridian Reference 800
There's also currently one high-def players with DVI output. And another with HDMI on the way...

And the European version of the ADS Media-Link streaming device comes fitted with an DVI output.

Thanks guada 2,

I'm sure there will be other players available in other countries too!

One of our moderators has an Elta Mpeg4/DVD player fitted with a DVI socket, which was not available in EuroLand... as far as I know!

Hopefully there will be more budget std-def DVD players arriving with digital video output sockets soon (but probably not with DVI). It's a bit of a mystery to me why such connections are rare!

Zensonic will have a DVD player that will spin HD DivX and WMV. It will also have a HDMI port. Should be ready by June for 250 ~ 300 USD.

I suppose that it will first be available to USA ! no Zensonic is hoping to release the Z500 sometime in June (3 months time), after sending out "trial players" to field testers in many countries.

There seem to be many people from around the globe (myself included) eagerly awaiting this players release.

But please be aware, this will not be a "budget" player... as it offers many features (including high-def and networking capabilities), that are not found in todays players!

As of the March 05, the anticipated retail price looks to be between $349 to $369 US dollars (up from its original US$299 price).

For more up-to date information and to ask questions of your own, check out Zensonic's forum (http://www.z500series.com/forum/).

All complementary information is not this useful in the forum SeeMoreDigital.
It is only a source of information, nothing mean I believe no.

If there something, don't hesitate to inform me. It interests me, thank you.
