what matrix for hdtv encode

What matrix should I use for a 1280x720 xvid encode at ~4000kb/s
H.263,mpeg or a more spefic one?

noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. v3ULR not v3HR. HD looks so good and is so detailed that if you dont use a high compresion matrix you will get huge bitrates. If that was what you were after then I guess you should use the HR matrix...

With eqm_v3hr and 4800 kb/s I got an encode with an average quantizer from 3.51 (very low and good in my opinion) . The video looks more detailled that with mpeg matrix (The most important for me).
To comfirm that, i 've done some ssim test : 83.53 for eqm_v3hr and 77.80 for mpeg.

I'm very happy with this matrix.

I think v3ULR will give less detailed video.

ULR will give less details and probably will generate an undersize coz i think it will get saturated at that bitrate.
Average quant of 3.5 is good. Keep that matrix for that encode unless you want to lower the bitrate.

Hmm Sorry bout that. Most HDTV encodes I deal with are extremely bitrate hungry. I guess your source was extremely compressible anyway I'm just glad I pointed you in the sortof right direstion.;)
