Hello !

I want to thank moderator for fast reply about resolution settings under Auto GK. But there is still something bothering me. When I encode movie trailer (appx. 2,5 minutes 4:3 720 x 576) and when I compare avi with original I can see difference in focus. When I can see in original that for example a cup of soda is visible exactly near the edge of screen on encoded avi is visible only half. Is this cutting normal ? I use Auto GK 1.60. And are in AGK included filters for improving outpuf file ?
Thank you for reply aleksB

The first thing I think everyone will tell you to do is grab the latest version. Seems to me 1.93 is.

In the logs, what is the detected AR? Does it detect the 4:3?

Hello!

Well, program detect that source file is aspect ratio 4:3, resolution 720x576 and PAL and the output file is AR:1,32 (NOT 1,33 Ţ 4:3) resolution is 528x400, comptest value:71,95. I fixed size of output file on 25 MB which is more than enough for 2 minutes DVD. I tried with both codecs Xvid and Divx, result is the same. And when I chose predefined output size ¼ CD, result is pretty much the same as it follows.
Duration was: 2 minutes 5 seconds
[6.3.2005 16:36:03] Speed was: 1,21 fps.
[6.3.2005 16:36:03] Compressibility percentage is: 371,54
[6.3.2005 16:36:03] Switching b-frames off
[6.3.2005 16:36:03] Chosen resolution is: 720x544 ( AR: 1,32 )
[6.3.2005 16:36:03] Predicted comptest value is: 246,24

About older version of Auto GK which I use I thought that it will be better if I use stable version, but of course intention is to install latest version and we shall see. You see it is not so big problem at all, but here is the puzzle if I use the same DVD file and I encode it with Dr. Divx the output file is perfect 4:3, no cutting but I think the quality of output file is worse than under Auto GK an I have pretty sharp eye. Any suggestions about my problem ? O yeah and about filters is there any way to improve output quality under AGK, sharpening perhaps or is this all in domain of auto settings in AGK?

Thanks for all sugestions aleksB

OK, I think it's time for len0x to jump in BUT...

If your source is in fact 720x576, the problem is the chosen resolution. It thinks you want to output it at 720x544. If you keep the same height, but cut the width... you get your cut side issue.

Which output resolution setting are you using? Auto width, minimum width, fixed width or maximum width? I always use fixed width and never have any issues.

You really should grab the latest build, trust me it is as stable as a tree, and they have made a lot of improvements since the 1.60 build.

Hello !

I chose auto option because I use moderator`s instruction from two days ago. I also encode input file with fix 640 option (and other options) but result is the same. I checked output file with several playback programs like Power DVD, BS player and Crystal player and I can still see cut off edges. Perhaps should I try encoding with latest version of AGK and even more important with some other DVD file, but I must say that I am still very suspicious about this thing.

Thanks for all sugestions aleksB

Are you saying that AutoGK crops too much? It might remove a few more pixels to achieve certain AR, but if more than a few pixels are getting cropped then threshold parameter of autocrop has to be tuned (see tutorial).

Hello !

Thanks for advise. It seems that all problems origin from fact that I use older version of Auto GK. Shortly I will reinstall both codecs and install latest version of AGK and try again. Thanks again aleksB
