Hi

Im a newbie to the whole DVD ripping arena. After spending many hours of research and testing on doom9 I am now able to rip, demux into separate files, Convert one format to another, remux it all together into a working movie etc. I have a few questions concerning some grey areas I do not yet have a working understanding of.

1. What is an ISO file. I can use dvddecryptor in iso mode which will rip and save an ISO file onto my Hard drive. I can then burn this onto a dvd blank and all works fine in my home dvd player.

However if I just pick up the Video_TS and AUDIO_TS off my hard drive using a burner and burn the directories with all its VOB and IFO files, the DVD does not self start when inserted into my DVD player. This happens even if I include the Video_TS vob and IFO files which I thought will self start

2. How do i create my own Video_ts ifo and vob files when creating my own dvds. I assume that on most commercial dvds where it does not play an intro it simply points to the menu of the main movie VTS_xx_0.ifo.

3. How do i create my own iso image if I only have video_ts and Audio_ts folders on my hard drive (and not .iso file). This needed for burning using DVDdecryptor

4. What is the purpose of the VOBEDIT tool. IFOEDIT seems to do everything needed for my purposes. IS THERE A NEW VERSION of IFOEDIT. The one I have can be a bit unfriendly and seems dated as far as the gui goes

5. This last question is currently beyond my abilities but I need to understand it. How do I create my own menu whereby I can use the remote to select the PGC required.

Lots of questions but hope someone is able to help me.

Kind regards

1. An ISO file is a disc image file, kinda like cue/bin files were to CDR. As for burning DVD's from VOBs and IFOs, treat yourself to Nero Express! Make a DVD Video project and double click the Video_TS folder, click Add, then browse for your DVD files. Add, them, click Finshed, then Burn.

2 and 5. Treat yourself again! Download the demo's of TMPGEnc DVD Author and DVD-Lab. Google will find. See which you prefer and buy it. Easy authoring with menu's is in your grasp!

3. ImageTool Classic. Copy and past into google :)

4. Anything authored with IFOedit will not play on my standalone, so I very rarely use it. Perhaps someone else can leap to your aid there.

Hi-

4. I agree with Nick about IFOEdit. I've found it not only intimidating, but useless as well, particularly for NTSC people. I much prefer PGCEdit. There are plenty of guides around this site for its use, particularly by that king-of-guide-creation, the man himself, 2COOL. :)

5. The easiest (and freest) way I've found to create fresh menus is with DVDAuthorGUI. Take some screen caps of the video or DVD cover or something, edit them in something like MS Paint or something better, adding text like :Play Movie1, Play Movie2", use DVDAuthorGUI to create .m2v files for them, and add audio if you like. With more pics you can create scene selection menus also. Then use DVDAuthorGUI to create the menus and buttons so you can use your remote control on it later on, before authoring the DVD.

The jpg/bmps must be 720x480/576, and I've found it much easier to get the button pixel locations from Paint, rather than using DVDAuthorGUI for it, as it's not very precise.
