Removal of a VOB IfoEdit doesn't see

I'm trying to rip Panic Room, and I've got everything set up the way I want it, EXCEPT the following:

VTS_02_0 contains nothing
VTS_02_1 contains the crap I want to remove

It's the same with VTS 03 and 04

When stripping it with IfoEdit (I stripped all audio and VOB 1 was all that was an option on all three VTS'), it's as if it doesn't "take".

I end up with an "invalid VOB" error message.


When burning, am I going to need these VOBS (it seems so, thus far) and if so, how can I replace them with "nothingness"? I just want the smallest file possible and blackness in those three VTS' place.

Welcome DrewKaree, I myself can't help you with IFOedit however I can point this greatest goodest bestest VobBlanker proggy out to you to try. Please don't forget to give the guides there a look-see.

Hi Drew.

Assuming you can wade through the baby talk, there's a better way.

Use PgcEdit. Load the DVD up and then right click on any title in the VTS you want to blank and select "Blank all VTST Titles".

Alright, thanks guys.

I had read several threads re: VOB blanker, but wasn't clear on them. I'll give one of the guides a go.

I'll also try your recommendation, blutach.

I've ripped two movies that were nice enough to fit onto a standard DVD-R, but these other two I ripped I've been having trouble getting them to fit, and I KNOW it can be done, but I wanted to keep menu functionality, so I've been wading through several guides piecemeal for all the different sections, and putting them together to print out for myself, and I'm also, new as I am to this, the de facto "tech support" for my brother-in-law with his new burner.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. I'm able to answer a question on a two year old thread here :D but I figured I'd need help with my more up-to-date question!

If you do decide to run with VobBlanker, then it will be quicker to skip the titles (and menus) you don't wish to blank. It is unnecessary to even touch them. Also, ticking process in input folder keeps everything where it should be. There is a very good help file bundled with VobBlanker and extremely good documentation with PgcEdit.

Both methods should only take a second or so.

Well, the "taking a second" part was true enough, it was the reading through the directions that took the most time!

VOB Blanker seemed as if it would do the job (and I'm sure it will), but as I was muddling through it, I was getting frustrated, so figured I'd give PgcEdit a try to give me a mental break. I found it to be so much easier I can't bring myself to get back to trying VOB Blanker.

The crap I was trying to blank out were the DTS Stereo thing (their version of the THX demonstration), the region map screen, and a "what exactly IS a "panic room" video.

Burning to commence perhaps after dinner and a cocktail or twelve :p

oh yeah, the reason I asked about IfoEdit was in that 2 year old thread, someone spoke of doing exactly what I wanted to do - rip out the 2 & 3 - but didn't speak of how it was done, and I know how inane it would have looked to resurrect a thread THAT old!

Mea culpa for not giving credit where it is due. ;) Are you going to update that guide due to the updates in PgcEdit's interface and operability (e.g only when it's "safe", which includes a LinkTailPGC cell command)?

@Drew - happy your problem is fixed. VobBlanker does take some getting used to but it is a godsend, especially when wanting to cut a PGC or blank just a cell (PgcEdit's blanking works on titlesets, VobBlanker can go down to the cell level and can even cut at the GOP level).

@ 2COOL, you "dumbed it down" well enough that I was able to breeze through that exact guide there when I did it. Thanks a bunch, I know it's sometimes hard to write "how-to's" that are easy to follow.

blutach, I'm sure I'll need it sometime soon, since I was perfectly happy to give up on it so quickly :rolleyes: Everything that I did previously I had to fix due to my own screwup, but after that, everything I fixed recently just dropped right in there. Rip came out PERFECT.

In fact, VOB Blanker is what I'm now using on Bourne!

Thus far, that endeavor is going well.

It appears that each movie for me will be a trial and error for what works, and what doesn't, and I can see now that VOB Blanker would have worked for this as well.

The benefactor? ME!

Now I know a little something about BOTH programs, and can give someone else help with whichever way I become comfortable.

I'm sure BOTH programs are dynamite programs, and am glad you posted about VOB Blanker, as I wouldn't have known of it to even THINK to read the guides and figure out the answer to my own problem with Bourne.

Put the swords down, and back away from the DVD player :D
