I have yet to find a master list of available matrices. So I compiled the ones I had on my pc into a list. Some may be named wrong and I know for sure there are alot more out there. Feel free to post matrices not listed and I or a mod can update the list.

Well, here (http://dl1.rapidshare.de/files/762319/118/Custom_Quant_Matrices.zip) is a zip with all matrices Ifound in my cqm folder... ;)

Here's my list of matrices: http://www.aziendeassociate.com/CQMs.rar
There are some more matrices (including some betas and old revisions) and the ones SH missed :)
@SH: EQM V2 and EQM AutoGK Sharp are the same thing :P

Damn, thought I already deleted *all* duplicates n' outdated versions... >.<

Wouldnt it be better to post download links instead of this "endless" list !?!
Maybe even grouping them "roughly" by usage...
- High bitrate
- Medium bitrate
- Low bitrate

I have yet to find a master list of available matrices.
so this is just a general matrix list and not "made for Xvid" list ? i would say yes since you have listed CCE and Tmpgenc matrices aswell. so wheres the QLB matrix ? :D ;)
Wouldnt it be better to post download links instead of this "endless" list !?!
you mean have a seperate txt for each matrix hosted somewhere so a person could click the link and see that matrix ? thats not a bad idea.
Maybe even grouping them "roughly" by usage...
and/or mpeg type origin (such as mpeg2(CCE etc), mpeg4(Xvid)) ?

@ dragongodz
Actually I meant a direct download link like in my sign !!!
Btw, imo this "origin" info would be a useful addition...

@soulhunter
I like the idea of labeling them for bitrate, for now I would like to try and get a complete list, since there are really no threads or sites with this info, I feel all will benefit from a master list so to speak.
@dragongodz
is this the QLB?

23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34
if so, it has been added :)
I also like your idea of a seperate text or even an xcm file, with the text files you can import them into cqme or read them with a text editor at least
I also dig the origin idea

yes, thanks. :)

yes thats why i thought text files would be good. :D

Which matrices works best for anime such as Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, DBZ ect. with bitrates from 1000-1500

I gotta run my friend to the airport, so either late tonight or tommorrow I will go ahead and setup a directory with the matrices in text format, then I can just add new ones and or updates to the same folder.

well let me start the origins off with one.
QLB
----
. first seen in QuEnc(Mpeg 1/2 encoder)
. matrix designed by dragongodz
hows that ? :D

the info is still a good idea, but I can't add it to the text files for imports, it will screw that up, so I think I will maybe add an info file for each one eventually, for origin/creator/what is was intended for/etc

or even just a single text file listing all the known origins would be ok.

Could anyone recommend a good intermediate between QLB (low bitrate) and 6of9 (high bitrate)? I do mainly MPEG2 but I've noticed that 6of9 looks very good at high bitrates even though it's designed for MPEG4 stuff. QLB excels at lower bitrates, and what I'm missing is something to use in between these two.

QLB doesnt look such as a low bitrate matrix...

When you compare it to 6of9, it is;)

@ Boulder
At times I use quickly-made mods of 6of9(HVS), like +2 to +4 in the upper-left, faded to +1 at the middle diagonal. That's for denoised input, just to adapt the matrix to achieve a lower bitrate.
For not-filtered input with noise, mods look more like +2 to +4 for the complete upper-left triangle, and the lower-right triangle raised linear to reach a value of "64" in the very last cell.
All of that for inter tables. Intra tables usually get a more constant offset.
I don't feel like posting "6of9_ultra-high", "6of9_high", "6of9_medium-high", "6of9_normal", "6of9_medium-low", "6of9_low", "6of9_very low", and "6of9_ultra-low" at all. ;)

QLB doesnt look such as a low bitrate matrix...
1. QLB stands for Quenc Lower Bitrate matrix.
2. it was designed for mpeg2, QuEnc specifically.
3. test it out at constant quant versus no custom matrix in QuEnc before saying it doesnt "look" like a lower bitrate matrix.
infact someone could try a constant quant encode with Xvid using h.263 and compare. that would be interesting to know aswell i guess.

SO which of these is best (if there is a best) for HDTV content ( 720p, say 1GB/HR minimum bit rate???

The low bitrate matrices are always recommended for HD, unless you choose an extremely high bitrate.
Poutnik
31st March 2005, 21:35
IMHO I would choose low/high bitrate matrix
according to intended BitsPerPixel ratio
and dominant scene type.
Static scenes, comedies, dramas, cartoons are more compresible than high detailed nature or sport with speed motion.

any suggestions on which one's to use for anime using hc 0.14 with the free version of dvd-rb?
i'm currently trying out the cce smooth (cg) matrix right now so i can make a comparison when it's all done in the morning. the next in line for me to try is the kika trickfilm high, soulhunter's v3 and y.a.c.q.m v2 if the results don't turn out that great.

That is to be expected when you try using an MPEG-4 custom matrix to encode in MPEG-2, unfortunately.

That is to be expected when you try using an MPEG-4 custom matrix to encode in MPEG-2, unfortunately.aahhhhhhhh ... yah i was initially hesitant about asking my previous question because i wasn't entirely sure if using mpeg-4 matrices on an mpeg-2 encode was the right thing to do. nonetheless my encode looks rather decent with cce smooth (cg) :). maybe i'll try some of the other built in matrices of hc that i haven't used instead.

Uh, interesting 3ad... i've started to play with matrices a week ago, so i'm a bit confused by all those opportunities ! :scared:
My goal is to store 4 backups on 1 DVD (4.7/4 = 1,170 Gb), so is almost as have 2CD rip... Keep in mind that i _NEED_ 640 x * + 128Kb Vorbis/stereo, so: what matrix shall i use (for a 90 min. film) ?
Thanks in advice !
