Failed to read Sector - L-EC Uncorrectable Error

I have been using DVD Decrypter for some time now with every try being a success. So now that I am trying to back up one of my movies I can't rip it in the first place. It goes to about 50% then generates an error saying it can't read a certain sector. By the way I did check the surface, it's clear as a mirror.

Any ideas why this is happening? Anyone seen this before? Would vstrip be worth a try, not to say that decrypter is bad (it is actually pretty good), just can't seem to read this disc. Thanks

I've seen this posted over various forums so you've probably already got your answer.

There was a batch of bad discs made and people couldn't rip them.

It's not protection, or anything like it, they're just bad copies.

Does IFO mode work? If not, I doubt PC player software would either.

You could try ripping in another drive (or 10!), maybe one will work.

Funny, but it's true. Drives differ (even ones by ther same manufacturer and/or the same model) in their capability of Reading off DVDs. I've found out errors while decrypting in one drive, but none in another.

Perhaps one can consider having at least two drives to work.

Yes I did some research over the internet and I also posted on club.cdfreaks under same id. It is true that there are bad sectors on the DVD and I was able to rip in file mode while ignoring errors, nevertheless the DVD is bad even when I play it; it skips a very small portion of the movie, which I hadn't noticed prior to my posting. I'll have the full trilogy soon anyway so I'll see what goes on there. I'll delete my backup for the time being. Thanks for the replies anyway.
