Dvddecrypter writing at 6X and only later at 8X

DvdDecrypter 3.5.1.0
DVD lLG 4120, firmware A111
windows2000 SP4

Every time i burn an .iso on my dvd-r verbatim 8X (Disc ID: MCC 02RG20, the best ones) at 8X speed:


1)if set "8X" speed writing, the writing will start at 6X, the log will show

and only after 1 minute it will raise to 8X without any message in the log.


2)1)if set "MAX" speed writing, the writing will start at 6X, the log will show NOTHING about it and only after 1 minute it will raise to 8X without any message in the log.



If you see the surface of the written dvd it shows a little circle near the centre : it's the 6X zone, having a different colour from the outer 8X zone.

The dvd is ok.

So the questions are:

A)why doesn't dvddecrypter always work at 8X but starts at 6X and only later goes to 8X?

A) 6x zone has a darker colour than 8X zone. a 4X zone is darker than both of them. Is it better 4X or 6X rather than 8X? Is perhaps a lighter zone written worse than a darker zone???. is it right or isn't it?

Lots of burners write at different speeds in different zones.

Speed increases as the drive writes more and more onto the disc. This is done by the drive, NOT the program. I have no control over it.

The speed warning in the log is a bit of a red herring really, drives dont report the info I'd hoped they would do when I wrote that bit of code. It has been removed now for that very reason.

When you set the speed to 'max', the is no point in it saying the drive isnt buring at the selected speed, because it doesnt know what 'max' is. Only if you set it to a specific speed can it then ask the drive what speed it thinks it is going to burn at and then compare the two values - but like I said above, it doesnt work like that.

So basically, dont worry about anything, it's all working perfectly.

The motor on the drive spins at a certain fixed speed. Since the writing starts at the centre of the disc and moves outward towards the edge, that means there is more data being written per revolution at the outside edge as there is at the centre, so reading and writing get faster as progress in your burn...

The motor on the drive spins at a certain fixed speed.Not necessarily true. This is the case only for CAV (constant angular velocity) drives. Drives may also use CLV (constant linear velocity - my old trusty Toshiba 2x does for sure) or P(artial?)-CAV or whatever ...
