It seems that when I am automating the AC3 encoding from WAV/MPA files, i need to determine the average volume level of the source (RMS). This needs to be fed into softencode for accurate AC3 reproduction. I seem unable to find any info for where the volume level is specified(?) in the WAV file. Any thoughts?
thanks

It isn't specified in the .wav file. Instead, you have to analyze the audio data to calculate the average RMS. Cool Edit Pro (a.k.a. Adobe Audition) has an "Analyze" tool which can do this.
