Just wanted to ask if anyone has used the merge function of Nero Recode before downloading the those megabytes. What happens if I merge two episodes of a TV show which originally have 8 chapters each? Do I end up with one title having 16 chapters? Or what if I merge 3 titles with no chapters, do I get one with 3?

Hi Chetwood! :)
The counter will go up to chapter 8 and then when it moves to next "clip" it will go back to count from 1 up to 8. You still have each titleset as a separate structure with IFOs, BUPSs and VOBs after the reauthore/merging.
The last question - I have never tried that - but I think you should end up with "3 titlesets = 3 chapters" - but all chapters will show up as 1 for each titleset. It will not show chapter 3 when you are at your latest titleset - just chapter 1.
I did a test and added three titlesets with just one chapter in each one and this is what happens:
After each clip the chaptercount is reverted back to 1. You will still have three titlesets.
Hope I haven't confused you to much...

sounds right to me as it works similar to DVDShrink. It retains the original chapter amounts but not the actual chapter numbers as it will renumber them in each new title

Well, I was wondering since DVD Shrink does not provide any merge function, the re-author modes keeps separate titles with their chapter intact.

I thought Recode actually merged the titles into 1 (as opposed to DVD Shrink, which in its reauthor/compilation mode, keeps the titles intact (in their own VTSs, I think)).
If this is the case and so long as the cell structure is preserved in the "merge", you can assign chapters at will. With PgcEdit, you can do this in a flash. Double click on the merged titled and there's a button to edit the chapter table.
Works 100% of the time.
