View Full Version : Compressibility Check not running

Hi.
Whenever I try running Compressibility Check it is not starting at all
in the log file I got:
22:44:56: Started DivX5-First Pass: C:\Programs\GORDIA~1\LastCompCheck.avs
22:44:57: Finished DivX5-First Pass: Duration: 0 seconds.
22:44:57: Trying to open Log-file.
22:44:57: Error: Could not open C:\Programs\GORDIA~1\vdenc.log
22:44:57: Error: Could not count encoded Frames.
22:44:57: Speed: 0.000 Frames per Second.
I had to run it manually and load the log file into GK. I have GK 0.35, reinstallation of the program did not help. What can be the reason of it? And what can I do to fix it? Thanks for any help.

there is probably an error in AVS file, so load LastCompCheck.avs manually in VDubMod to see the exact error...

mine does the exact same thing

however, I can set everything up thru gk and manually run it thru vdubmod

I will reproduce the error in a bit and post the logs/errors

LastCompCheck.avs
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\DGMPGDec\DGDecode.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\AutoGK\filters\RemoveGrain.dll")
mpeg2source("D:\DVDRIP\The Green Mile\TGM.d2v")
Lanczos4Resize(576,320,2,2,716,472)
RemoveGrain(mode=2)
SelectRangeEvery(280,14)

avs loads up just fine in vdubmod, I can also run it at q2 and it correctly encodes it also

agk works fine, maunal encoding thru vdubmod with using the files created by gk work also

I may have the same problem as SiXXGuNNZ, I can load the
LastCompCheck.avs into VirtualDubMod and later load the generated result(vdenc.log) into GK without problems. Both divx and xvid modes does not run. AutoGK runs without problems.
What can I tell/show you to help diagnose the problem?

len0x
3rd March 2005, 15:39
what about lastjob.vcf - is it loadable into VDubMod?

nixo
3rd March 2005, 15:53
I had the same problems until I started using the version of VDubMod that comes with AutoGK in GK. I can't check right now but I guess it might be a different build...

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 15:54
It is empty:
// VirtualDub job list (Sylia script format)
// This is a program generated file -- edit at your own risk.
//
// $numjobs 0
//

// $done

len0x

Right after failed comp test its empty? That is why comp test is failing. I cannot reproduce this though.

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 16:19
Yes, it is empty right after failed comp test. What else can I check to give you some more info?
VirtualDubMod build is 2439, the one in GK pack.

len0x
3rd March 2005, 16:24
Which lastjob.vcf are you looking at btw? the one in VDubMod dir?

Do you press codec settings before launching comp test?

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 16:47
Yes, empty lastjob.vcf is in VirtualDubMod dir. I tried pressing and not pressing Codec Settings before test, no difference. Codec settings look good: 1-pass with quantizer 2.

I have the same setup and its working ok... without debugging its impossible to says what's wrong...

What's your OS and which user you're running GK under (admin or not)?

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 18:40
I have Windows 2000, user is not admin but is in group Administrators.
I know that it is really hard to diagnose a program "remotely" :-) As I wrote there is an easy workaround,I can run the test manually and load result to GK, so the problem is not "fatal". Probably it is some combination of installed components in Windows (as usual:-)

len0x
3rd March 2005, 18:45
what's the content of your LastCompCheck_GKnot.log?

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 18:56
I see that GK thinks LastJob.vcf was created.

Here it is:

Did you remove SetCompData from the script or it was not there?
If its there then dump the contents to *.vcf file and try loading that in VDubMod.

*Edit* ah, its only there for XviD. Which divx version are you using?

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 19:07
I have Divx 5.2.1 Pro, but when I choose Xvid as a codec the problem remains.
I have created a vcf file and it runs just fine in VirtualDubMod.

len0x
3rd March 2005, 19:09
So it's actually encoding something? That means that vcf file doesn't get written despite log saying so. hm...

len0x
3rd March 2005, 19:26
Actually lastjob.vcf is emptied after every run, so that's not a problem. I think GK fails to start VDubMod completely. Are you able to run actual encoding OK?

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 19:30
Yes, it work fine. And the file LastJob.vcf is created,(when I delete it before test, it is recreated), but there is something else in it(empty file you have seen).

romgohan
3rd March 2005, 19:37
No, the actual encoding is not runnig too, I was not trying to run it recently, only wanted to perform comp test, so I did not notice that :-(

I'm getting exactly this problem too. Having never used this tool before today, I'm afraid I am ill-equipped to diagnose the problem, but my symptoms and logs look about the same. Still, I'll offer what I can.

VirtualDubMod clearly starts, but doesn't do anything. Using Filemon.exe from http://www.sysinternals.com, I got a few suspect entries, although no mention of the logfile ghat GK is looking for.

I'm set for XviD, but after VDubMod loads divx.dll, it never finds divx_0409.dll nor divx_xx09.dll. I can't say if this is related or not-- Filemon has a tendancy to spew out loads of useless information.

The only other thing that looked suspicious is that VDubMod tried to load an earlier .avs and associated .d2v file from a previous attempt. That's puzzling, and of course they no longer exist. That earlier attempt was to a directory on my desktop, btw, so it had spaces in the filenames. Probably irrelevant, but worth mentioning.

About my setup: I had AviSynth installed prior to using any of the GK tools, and probably overwrote it both with AutoGK (using 1.60 presently), and GK (0.35.0). I have 3 VDubMod's installed, but my paths in GK look like the earlier screencap.

The only other oddball thing about my setup is that if I go into VDubMod and look under compression, I have "DivX Pro 5.0.5 Codec" listed twice. I doubt this is related, but you never know. (Hasn't caused me problems before)

If someone is able to work with me on this realtime on any instant messenger (during the few coming hours) please PM me with your details.

That would be THE solution indeed as we just found out!
(ah hour of debugging and all for nothing :) )

Ugh. Why did I gloss over this solution without trying it? I apologize for that. But yes, this fixed the problem-- I just changed the path on the "Program Paths" tab.

Is it really the old struggle between VdubMod Versions?
Or did I get something wrong?
All errors cured just by switching to older VdubMod (the one AutoGk uses?
I'm using different versions of VdubMod on my machine without any disadvantages for a long time.
So I think there must be something else wrong on your side.
But as long as it works....

thanks for the dirty fix, works now :)

romgohan

The problem disapeared just by switching to older VirtualdubMod. The 1.5.10.1 version always crashes when started from GK (on my system). It works just fine without any problems when started manually.

This VDmod 1.5.4 trick should be stickied, or included in a stickied FAQ. Better yet, 1.5.4 should replace 1.5.10 in the next GK release.
