hey len0x,

i know you're still working on finalizing the stable release after 1.93b, but anxious for the next release which includes avi support as an input file. i have problems playing a whole bunch of avi's that are divx 3.11 on my showcenter and i'd like to re-encode them all to divx 5 so i can watch them, but there are about 80 of them. i know i can do this in virtualdub now, but a pain and manual labor :) so autogk will make my life easier for this process.

so to my question...how long before you think a beta version will be out that will suport avi's as an input?

thanks,

I can't promise you anything, but my plan atm is next week.

thanks,

I said previously that I have it working already, but waiting to get stable release out of the way first.

Great news about the forthcoming AVI support.

I'm hoping this will include support for DV AVI sources? If so, are you planning to incorporate a DV decompressor in the AGK download package (maybe FFDShow vfw DV?)and/or will it allow use of other DV codecs? If the latter, could I please request that provision is made for Top Field First, as well as Bottom Field First DV source files. I dont know how many other people out there use the Matrox DV/DVCAM vfw codec, but I favor it because it accurately maps luminance when converting the upsampled RGB to YUV, unlike some other freely available codecs e.g. the Sony DV software codec, which requires luma shift correction. The Matrox codec however reverses the field order to TFF. I now get around this using the AVS filter ReverseFieldDominance in my script. Previously, I used to just change the KernelDeint order setting from order=0 to order=1. Maybe this could be incorporated in the "hidden options"?

Actually, I'm really keen to see what level of compression AutoGK will bring, as with my feeble attempts at XviD settings, I'm usually encoding my Pal Type II DV captures at more than 3500kbps to acheive a decent compression (45-50%, based on a GK Comp Test).

Hope I'm not completely off track about the DV support.

I'm not planning to bundle decompressor. In fact VFW decompressor will not be required to process AVI file - only DShow support (avisynth will be used to open avi files via DirectShowSource). So presumably ffdshow will be main filter for dv sources.

About TFF/BFF. Are you sure that ffdshow will be able to output TFF?

P.S. I have a feeling that it'll be quite a long way to fully support DV sources and I'd like to keep it as automatic as possible.

Thanks for your reply Lenox. I guess if you are planning on using the DirectShow DV filter then then BFF/TFF will not be an issue. As far as I know, it outputs as BFF (i.e. the normal convention). Actually I'm not encoding anything with the Matrox DV codec. When I edit my Pal DV captures in Ulead Video Studio, I always disable the Matrox codec (using vcswap) and render with the native Type II DV encoder which outputs BFF. I then re-enable the Matrox codec only for decompression when converting to other formats. I guess having vfw DV codecs enabled in the background will not present the same "interference" issues with AGK based on your intent to use DirectShow. Thanks again.

While you'r at it len0x, beat them DivX's guys, to handle .AC3 support as well.

My god, your app AutoGK rocks so much !

Sorry, I didn't get what you wanted to say here.

len0x, i compared AutoGK with Dr.DivX (which can't handle pure .ac3 files yet), only from a dvd-source.

Like eg,
input - movie.avi
input - movie.ac3 -> output - movie.ac3.avi

Are you asking for separate AC3 audio input support in AutoGK?
Or if input AVI file has AC3 audio then to keep it during reencode?

Correct. Since more and more channels now sends in DD 5.1, i have found it extremely easy to strip out the AC3 sound.

This is probably a new feature comming in Dr.DivX's next version.

I still don't get it: if you have TS or PS from a TV capture that has AC3 sound then AutoGK is able to work with it already. Why would you need to feed in a separate AC3 track?

I dont get it either...but may be useful if you author DVDs and what to author XviDs from elementary streams

Thanks for working on it!
That's a feature many people will find very usefull!!!

I just LOVE auto gordian knot for it's extreme userfrendliness and extreme ease of use (I used to fiddle a bit with Virtual Dub, but it's so complicated to get your settings right sometimes).

I'd like autoGK to become my one and only avi compression tool!

AutoGK really rulez!!!!! Thanks!
