is there any software to test these drives and what temp should they operate at THANXS

Hi,

You could give it a try to "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows", I have never used it before because I have no disk problems, I have a Western digital sata hard disk and an IDE in the same machine.

The only application I have used, and this was to format the disk from Windows XP was diskmgmt.msc.

To use it you need to go to Start/Run, in the command prompt window just
type diskmgmt.msc

It depends on the manufactorer of the hard drives rather than the interface of the drives (at least sata and ide). Seagates are noted for quietness and somewhat being cool drives, whereas WD are known to be hotter and louder. If your hard disk gets too hot you'll probably find out in a bad way. As long as there is adequate ventilation in your case and adequate space in between your HD's then you should be fine. Maybe search google for a HD heat sensor program.

If you need temparature data from your hard disks you can try Speedfan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) which reads out the temparature reported by your hard-drive.
