Hello, i hope someone knows how to fix this big problem.

I got a movie, and it doesnt have the VIDEO_TS.VOB.

Now i have a friend that has the same movie but he made a backup using other program and he sent me his VIDEO_TS.VOB

the problem is that his video_ts.vob doesnt work on my files, dvdshrink gives me an error and i dont know if his .vob will work after i burn the disc.

Is there any way to fix this?
any comments you might have so i can try?

Why can't you get it from your original DVD? What videos are in your VIDEO_TS.VOB anyway?

i cant, we dont have the original dvd.

we just have my backup that does not have the video_ts.vob

and he sent me via email his video_ts.vob

but both backups were made with different programs.

And i dont know the video that the video_ts.vob has , its only a 22kb file!, but if you want to help me i can send it to you if you want.

I'd say, you most likely had your company promos, FBI warnings, movie ratings, etc. in it. Things that alot of people consider "unwanted material". Anyways, if it can open up in PgcEdit, blank all your VMGMs.

Right click on a VMGM > select Blank out all menu PGCs.

cool, i just did what you told me on all VMGM from 1 to 15
and when i finish i get the same error on dvdshrink wich is that there is no video_ts.vob

any other ideas?

Stupid question but you do have a VIDEO_TS.VOB present, right? Can you play your DVD in PowerDVD?

I did what you told me with the VIDEO_TS.VOB that my friend sent me.
and i also did what you told me without any video_ts.vob, wich is the way i got this dvd in the first place, without any video_ts.vob

Im able to play the dvd on powerdvd without any video_ts.vob
the problem will be on some standalone players, without the video_ts the player will go nuts, and i know the original of this dvd had a video_ts.vob , it just got lost.

2cool, i created an empty video_ts.vob, then i runned pgcedit and did everything you told me, after that i looked into the folder and ther is no video_ts.vob anymore.

and now when i try to open it with dvdshrink i get this error:
failed to open vts_01_0.vob

failed to open vts_01_0.vob I don't understand why this is happening to you as I just did a quick test with blanking my VMGMs, with no VIDEO_TS.VOB present, awhile ago. I checked in my folder and I do have a VIDEO_TS.VOB and I successfully processed it through DVD Shrink.

Are these all original (untouched) files?

yea its pretty weird because, with no video_ts.vob i did what you told me and after that there is still no video_ts.vob

i just sent you some files

Try doing a mock strip (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84097) on your VTS_01_0.VOB.

grrr.. i did the Mock Strip
and now i get this error in dvdshrink:

invalid data in file vts_03_1.vob

this is making me nuts

Something definitely wrong with your files. I suggest you keep on mock stripping your files in question. You managed to fix two problems so far.

wow i did the trick all up to vts8 and now dvdshrink can Analyse it but reaaaaally slowly, is it normal for shrink to read it like 10% and freeze for some minutes and then continue analysing it?

i hope it reads 100%, after that what whould i do? create a new dvd using shrink?

It shouldn't but theories to consider....

1. cpu speed
2. fragmentation
3. background apps hogging resources
4. virus

I fucked up before, that was why it was slow. Now i did it right and dvdshrink is analyzing at super fast speed. Im going to backup the dvd again using dvdshrink...

After i choose to back up it, i think ill get a new dvd with video_ts.vob, right??

Or what are the steps after dvdshrink can read the files?

all i want is a compatible copy that will run on any standalone dvd player system.

Pabloz
28th February 2005, 22:19
well i finished doing the backup and dvdshrink didnt do any video_ts.vob, so im still without the video_ts.vob

but dvdshrink can read the files and make a backup without any problem at all.

2cool, does this mean that my files are now compatible with all standalone dvdplayers?? even if there is still NO video_ts.vob file?

all i know is that this Mock Strip worked 100% for me. and it rocks.
after the mock strip a video_ts.vob was made but it is empty 0kb.

when i used dvdshrink on those mock striped version the dvd was analysed perfectly, but when i made a backup using dvdshrink of those files, the video_ts.vob dissapeared, it is missing again, but the disc can be read without any problem.

should I put a empty 0kb video_ts.vob ?

If you are burning with Nero, it'll complain about files under 2KB. Anyways, I think if you had blanked and killed playback on your VMGMs, it a confident matter to remove the VIDEO_TS.VOB and save in PgcEdit. Saving will ensure sectors are corrected.

I'm glad that you finally got DVD Shrink to work. BTW, what episodic DVD are you working on?

Pabloz
28th February 2005, 22:57
well what i did is:

1) used pgcedit
2) blanked every VMGMs
3) save dvd.

4) used the Mock Strip on every vob that made me errors.

i hope that is enough to ensure full compatibility with home dvd players.,, ill burn it tomorrow.

this dvd was a transformers season1 dvd3 i got, and the person that did it didnt include the damn video_ts.vob. thanks for the help! i spent 3 hours working on this and now it appears to work better than ever.

I spent a hour in a bookstore perusing through a thick book on the Transformers universe. It was pretty interesting and very well illustrated. I'm still a kid at heart.

I just checked your VMGM commands. You should be good-to-go. There were no instances of video playback of whatever you had in your VIDEO_TS.IFO to begin with. As for the disappearing 0 KB when processing through DVD Shrink, that's normal.
