"Medium" bitrate cqm

Well I made another cqm. Its amazing to me how hard it is to make one that works well on many different types of pictures, as soon as one artifact is nailed down I find that a new one has taken its place:eek: . So This matrice is an attempt to make a compromise between the many different artifacts that plague Xvid encodes.

Hybrid8AQ[sharp sources preferably with no oversharpening][medium bitrate][smooth, but hopfully still detailed][will not preserve film grain][not for blurry or low detail sources][most common artifacts are blurring and light ringing, low occurence of blocks]

Also are there any plans for another cqm comparison? There always Helpful in showing which matrices are actually good at what. On that note comments are very very welcome!

Well I would certanly be interested in another cqm comparison. Imo the cqm used for encoding is one of the most important factors in determining the final look and quality of an encode. Also thanks for the hosting :).

Comp. tests results with XviD v.1.0.3

Defaults / MPEG @ Q2 = 2565kbps

Defaults / H.263 @ Q2 = 2384kbps

At this point people have probably seen enough quant matrix comparisons and unresized screenshots that look pretty much identical. I think the most helpful thing you could do if you made a comparison would be to post avi clips of encoded movies showing scenes of interest, which could then be viewed fullscreen in a media player for a realistic comparison.

The only difference between most of these matrices is how noticeable ringing and swimming-texture artifacts are when watching a video play. Fine detail preservation is in there too, but what's most important is the total impression you get of a given scene when watching the video play.

Hosting video clips for public download is asking a lot, I know, but that's just my 2 cents.

Uhm, i would use V3ULR but since you resized to 720x288 i'm not really sure... but still V3LR needs more bitrate.
The only way is to test ULR with that clip @ 1100kbps and if there are too much Q1s just drop it and switch to V3LR.

Nah, you wont see Q1's @ 1100kbps...

Even EQM v3 ULR eats 2025kbps @ Q2 !!!
