Does anyone know if there is a way to record already encoded DD so that it is recorded in the same format?

I am just curious, there have been several good concerts being broadcast in HD and 5.1 DD on cable. I know there is no feasible way to record the video portion but was thinking that I could record the audio by running the digital out from the cable box to a digital in on my soundcard.

I am just not sure if there is a way to record the DD 5.1 audio as DD 5.1 audio AC3.

I am also not sure of the legalities of doing something like this though if it is just for my personal use I do not see the harm. However if this query in anyway jeopardizes this forum or owners please feel free to delete it, no explanation required.

I would imagine you could with one of the new set-top DVD recorders that are becoming more and more affordable. As for the legalities, I believe personal use is considered fair use. If you distribute the files to anyone else or if you sell the files then obviously it's very illegal.
