View Full Version : Scanarist - Is this normal?

I read in the Big3-New guide that all completed items in the SCENARIO EDITOR Tab of Scenarist should be completely black, and that items missing something would have a place holder picture.

Well, looking at the DVD I have here, all of the previews seem to be totally black, and the extras are all black --- but the main movie VTS has numbers of different chapters, and most are not black. In fact, what you see instead of black are little thumbnails of whatever scene it is for.

Does this mean something went wrong? Or is this correct and I am good to go?

I also got a lot of warnings in the GENERAL tab. They were basically all the same: "Sub-Picture (Stream 1 in Track "VTS03_001_Track") is across scene boundary at 00:11:03:00 etc...

VTS03 is my main movie VTS.

The last warning was "Quadrant or Sigma Design MPEG Decoder is not present or the driver is not installed." Not sure what that is or that means...

well ... couple of different questions there ....

1. to be honest i cannot find anywhere in the guide where it states that a track has to be completely black ... . well, either way, for the record, as long as it does not show a placeholder symbol, it can be black, blue, red, green, or contain scenes from the movie and it is good to go.

2. that warinig you are getting is a warning only. if you do not already do so, i suggest you encode your video FROM Scenaid, as it improves the chapter/scene locations, and reduces (removes) these warnings. either way, the end result of this warning i that a subpicture crosses a scene and if you skip to that scene, the subpicture will not be shown. however in normal play mode it will be fine.

3. that warning should be pretty self explanatory ... it simply means that you have not purchased/installed the optional Quadrant or Sigma Design MPEG Decoder. it is a non-issue as far as you are concerned.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it worked OK.

Here is a new problem.

I ran a backup overnight last night, and when I woke up, scenarist crashed during its part (had a nice bug-report window). It LOOKS like everything up to that point worked correctly.

How do I run scenarist manually? Ive never done it, the script did everything on its own. I did open up the .SCN file. So now everything is sitting in the program. Can someone point me to a guide on how to run Scenarist manually? What buttons to push to get it to process?

Thanks

if you start up scenaristthere's an option for "new from script" just follow the prompts

I tried that, as well as doing a new one from scratch. I keep getting this error. Again, the backup is "Butterfly Effect." And frankly, its owning me. I believe everything is built correctly, just get this error when I try to "START" the Create DVD Video process in Scenarist:

Error No valid Sub-Picture exists for highlight 01:22:55:01 in Track(VTS01_002_Track) Sub-Picture stream 1.
Error No valid Sub-Picture exists for highlight 01:22:55:01 in Track(VTS01_002_Track) Sub-Picture stream 2.
Error The Sub-Picture 01:22:55:01 in Track(VTS01_002_Track) Sub-Picture stream 3 does not have a consistance display stop to match the Sub-Picture in Sub-Picture Stream 1
Error The Sub-Picture 01:22:55:01 in Track(VTS01_002_Track) Sub-Picture stream 4 does not have a consistance display stop to match the Sub-Picture in Sub-Picture Stream 1
Error No valid Sub-Picture exists for highlight 01:22:55:01 in Track(VTS01_002_Track) Sub-Picture stream 5.
Error No valid Sub-Picture exists for highlight 01:22:55:01 in Track(VTS01_002_Track) Sub-Picture stream 6.
Error Validate From DB failed
Error DVD files could not be created

Good stuff.

What does that mean?

@recoli47
It means that the highlight part (BOV) does not have a corresponding sub (In all streas) that matches the sub timestamp exactly.

At 01:22:55:01 there will be a highlight. Now make sure that there is a sub in every stream that match the start time & duration of the highlight exactly (or adjust the highlight). In essence which ever way you do it, all streams should match. NB subs in stream 3 & 4. They 'may' not have a stop time or no stop associate with them. Each sub across all streams at that timestamp must have the same params. starttime / duration / stop time (or no stop), then the highlight must have the same start time / duration.

Ok that makes sense, but how do I fixy? :)

try turning off the option in scenaid to remove stops ( Options->SubHandling->Advanced Subtitle Options->Remove Stop From Nostop BMPs) turn that option off (uncheck) then make your script again.

you can also fix it in scenarist (refer to one of the older BOV guides) or adjust the script by hand .. but hopefully the option above works for you, will be way easier

If you could please send me the .log and .scp zipped up....

I need to isolate BoV issues

I will do so tomorrow when I am able to run the backup again.

I hope to be complete (to the point of error) in a few hours, I just started the backup.

I should let you know that I am NOT running Scenaid 1.5 at this point. I did give it a try last week, but something always made Scenarist lock up and I couldn't complete backups with it, so I went back to 1.0. It might have been an issue with the Automate Scenarist file that I have. I was using (with 1.5) and still am using (with 1.0) the latest version of "Automate_Scenarist" that I downloaded from the Numenu4u site.

Here are versions I am running:

DIF4U: 1.4.7
Scenaid: 1.0.0.0
BatchCCEWS: 0.9.1.5
CCE: 2.67.00.23
Automate_Scenarist: 2.1.0
Scenarist: 2.7

Logs and the link will be sent in a few hours.

1.0 logs are useless to me... i need 1.5 if I'm to help fix the problem

but I will tell you now.. the 1.0 script for Butterfly effect will be incorrect

Well, you were correct. The script gave an error. Let me ask you this (as I am heading out for a bit). I assume the encoding part went OK and I wont need to redo that.

Can I upgrade to Scenaid 1.5, set it up, then re-run it using original assests and have it not launch BatchCCE, and it should do its thing?

I think I will still run into a problem with Automate_Scenarist as I have before, but it least its a 1.5 problem to solve.

If you think that is a good way to do this, let me know and when I get back home I will do it.

Also, should I be deleting the SCP and SCN files and such before I restart the process?

Thanks

yes re-encoded assets will be fine.... you can upgrade and rescan / generate script

OK D3s7.

I reinstalled Scenaid 1.5, and ran with original assets, and the same thing happened to me that always happened with Scenaid 1.5. I get a windows error report after Scenarist starts processing the script.

It should be noted, that Scenaid at least gives me a SCRIPT ERROR box, when it fails. This seems to look like an application lockup.

I will email you the .log and the .scp as you requested.

Just an update to all... i've been working on this issue and have tracked down the problem causing scenarist to blow up..

That part has been resolved (although 2.7 seems to be having other wierd issues we're trying to isolate/fix)
