Hello to all, another not so intelligent newbie here with what is probably a really dumb problem. I am having a real problem burning DVD backups on my computer. I have a new HP Pavilion with an 8X DVD+R/RW with CD-RW capabilities. I am attempting to back up a couple DVD's using DVD shrink 3.2 ( a process that always worked well with my Dell that I just got rid of. I am getting a "burn process failed" message everytime it begins to burn (I should also mention that I have and am using Nero version 6 Ultra Edition for burning, a program that I was told works well with DVD shrink). Here is the complete message I am getting when attempting to back up the DVD's:

As far as I can see, it is a power calibration error. From what I have read, the reasons to this can be many, such as:

- bad (or incompatible) media;
- failing power supply;
- dying burner.

Also, there maybe problems with other drivers (you have Pxhelp.sys), but from my experience, this particular driver doesn't create problems on my system (but your version is older).

I hope I gave you some pointers about what thing(s) to check. Maybe someone else can see more than me...

P.S. It looks like your key has fallen out of your pocket. Someone may pick it up. :)

First of all, (exactly as GrofLuigi said) you are showing a Nero key in your log, anybody could download a demo version of Nero and make it full with your key... you decide if you whant to show that!
I have a HP Pavillion Laptop, but with a Sony DVD burner, and I never had problems, did you try if there are some firmware updates for your DVD burner at the HP site?
Greetings! ;)

Thanks guys. I found a couple of firmware updates but that has not fixed the problem. I still am getting the burn process failed. The burner in my HP is an NEC DVD+RW 2100AD. Is there a way to test the burner to find out if in fact it is defective? (everything I try still comes up with "power calibration error"). Oh the media I use with the system is Memorex 8X DVD+R discs, they are what I have always used. Thanks to all who have answered.

Hi frightking, try this page (http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45942) at dvdshrink.info website.

You may also want to buy a small pack of re-writable disks :p .

Thanks for all the help guys, I figured out how to fix the problem. I dumped Nero and went with CopytoDVD, burning works great now. I now have a new problem (actually its an old problem that has become very bad). After loading DVD shrink 3.2, DVD decrypter and Nero my computerwas so heavily bombarded with pop up ads and crap that it was bogged down, my pop up blocker and my adaware removal programs couldn't even help. I kept getting reports from Norton Anti-virus that there were virus's trying to get into my comuter. ENOUGH TO DRIVE A MAN MAD!!! So I had no choice but to do a full system recovery, now I have none of the before mentioned programs for DVD ripping. What I need to know is: Are there programs that will do the same as all the above WITHOUT all the adware, pop-ups and some strange program installing itself on my CP?? Remember I am a newbie and we like to screw things up a few times before we get it right!!Please let me know what you think.

Well, in my experience neither DVDShrink, DVD decrypter or Nero have pop-ups.

I run all three (every day, I know it's sad) and have never received a pop-up from them.

Strange, I also (from time to time) use a Bit Torrent downloader called BitLord. Could that be where it is all coming from??? I don't have any of the before mentioned programs on my computer (including Bit Lord) and there are no problems at all. I also have installed Norton firewall on my machine since my system restore, do you think that will help?
