Hi. I'm trying to backup my 24 - Season 3 dvd's. I'm using Big 3 method (DoitFast4U, BatchCCEWS, ScenAid & NuMenu4u), which have used several times yet without problems. Everything seems to go OK till scenarist produces an error. It happened with both the two first discs....

This is what it says...Could somebody please help me?

hi Hound30,
Info Encoding subpicture "D:\Processing\Big\Disc2\VTS07\subs\VTS_07_VSUB_P1A1-09-L\VTS_07_VSUB_P1A1-09-L-(Not detected)_0012_v001_c020.bmp"
well, although i have not seen the first warning before, you should check to see if that subpicture actually exists in your subs folder.

as far as i can tell, the reason why the mux is failing is because of this:Error Subpicture[1] (209:VTS7_P1_00_210.sp) and (210:VTS7_P1_00_209.sp) offset are overlapped (00:15:32:10-00:15:39:21) and (00:15:32:10-00:15:32:19) this is elling you that you have overlapping subs which is a big no-no in scenarist.
to fix this, i would open up VTS_07 in the track editor of scenarist, and locate the offending subs in the timeline (at 00:15:32:10), and delete one of them.
you can check the .bmps in the subs folder to see if they are the same - bit of a judgement call if they are not.

btw you can use the magnifying glass in the tools to zoom in on those subs.

Done exactly as your recommendation (deleted one sub ) and guess what?
It worked. Thanxs for such a usefull tip.

You don't have to delete the sub. Just reposition and resize if needed. As a habit I always go through the subs to correct for any that overlap or cross chapter boundrys. Takes about 15 minutes for me on average to scan through the complete movie and fix subs along the way and its worth it. No compiler errors and no reallocation errors when burning. Set the track to full magnification and scroll through from beginning to end.

Or you can start up the preview and try to play the movie. If there are overlaping subs, muxing will not complete and you will get a list of all the bad subs and locations. Use this list to find your subs and edit them.

Highlight the sub. Now below change the start time. If you need to change the subs duration, double click on the folder to the left of the start time and in the next window you can set the duration.

raster,

to be honest, since i have changed my workflow to:
dif4u ---> numenu4u ---> scenaid ---> batchcce/batchencode
i have not had a single warning in regards to subpictures crossing scene boundaries.
if you do not already follow this method, i strongly suggest giviing it a go.

as for the adjustment in subpic times as a solution for Hound30's problem, yes, it is a perfectly valid technique, however it requires a bit more manual effort and knowledge than simply deleting one of the subpics. furthermore, given the overlap, i took a guess and worked on the assumption that the subpics were the same.
either way i have posted many times in this forum about how to fix this, which can be found by simply searching.

jel,

Did not mean to ruffle any feathers :D
I have read a lot of your posts and I find you quite knowledgeable. My intention was not to dispute your advice. I just thought that Hound30 should know that deleting a sub (and this is my opinion) should not be taken as the only and best solution.

My workflow is: dif4u ---> scenaid ---> batchccews
And sometimes: dif4u ---> numenu4u ---> scenaid ---> batchccews
I let dif4u call numenu4u when I use it. After that I start up Scenaid and let it import the script into Scenartist 2.6. I check and adjust subs, compile and BatchUpdateIFO

As you can see my workflow is pretty much the same as yours. I’m I missing something? There has not been one time where I did not have some subs that were overlapping or crossing a scene boundary. Maybe it’s just my luck.

trust me mate .... not a single feather ruffled :D

anyway, as for your subtitle issue, the only thing i would say is that you must use the ScenAid-ccedata.txt file (not the ccedata.txt) in BatchCCE/BatchEncode if you want to avoid this problem. D3s7 includes accurate chapter point locations for I-frame insertion when re-encoding, so the scene/cell times should match with the original.

in addition to this, D3s7 has been making fixes to vsrip and the way he handles subtitles, which should drastically reduce the number of warnings/errors you are getting. this will be avaliable when he releases the current beta which is being heavily tested before going public.
