blank (or black) video at the end

hi,
I re-encode some DIVX file with XVID 1.0.3 by decreasing the bitrate
but some of them have strange long black parts at the end.There is
no error found my my hardware or software decoders. For example the
source video is 35 min but the xvid is 50 min. 15 min difference
is at the end as blank (black) video. Gspot also says new file
is 50 minute.
The total file size of result files are a I expected is lower.
any idea? thank you in advance,

The most obvious cause would be the software used to encode it. If you post what the software is maybe someone could verify that but there is an easy way to find out.

Load the DivX into VirtualDub. Choose Xvid as the compression codec from the VIDEO menu and save the AVI. If it saves correctly, with no difference in length then it is your encoding software at fault and not the Xvid codec.

I use virtualdub 1.5.10 and I exactly do what you explained but
the result is buggy video.

• Are your encodes OK at their begining and blank only at the end?
• Do you make 1-pass or 2-pass encodings?

It is only at the end and there is no problem inside of
the video at all.I use 1-pass encoding

• When you open the original DivX file in VirtualDub, is the blank part already present (before the encoding?).
• What kind of audio track have you put in your DivX AVI files? if AC3, ogg,etc. then use VirtualDubMod instead of VirtualDub. (who knows, it could be related to the audio...)
-> can you try without sound (AUDIO -> no audio) and tell us the result?

No,there is no blank part on the original divx.
I do not change anything on audio and I do not re-encode the audio at all. It is direct stream copy with the source audio.

Yes, maybe, but specify anyway what kind of audio it is, please...
Even using direct stream copy, if the audio format is not supported by VirtualDub, VDub won't be able to mux it correctly in the output AVI file.

here is what gspot says about audio of original divx file

Name:0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-2 Layer 3
Bitrate:64 kb/s (32/ch, stereo) CBR
Fs:22050 Hz

This information is also valid for my output xvid files.

yes,first i needed to re-encode those files.Xvid was
my best and free option.

why do i need to re-encode is:
source video is %60-70 static and encoded unnecesarily in high
bitrate video.I decrease them to fit into my dvds as much as possible.

it is not relevant to our case but it is Holy Quran video and its
turkish translations with 30x2 divx files.I re-encoded them to make 2
dvds with each video as 350kbs (good enough for watching)

So, I do not have more ideas to dig. 'Hope someone has experienced the same problem and could help you...

i think i have a clue.when i start the re-encoding manul in
virtualdub there is no blank part at the end.it happens
only the files in a job.i know this is not virtualdub thread but
does anybody has the problem in combination with xvid?

I personally used VDub 1.5.10 a lot - and I still do - without having any trouble with the Job Control and XviD. The only problems I had were because of me, re-using bad old jobs and mixing up everything...


...So, if I understood:
- initially the Job Control is empty
- you add a new job (that would have work fine if not queued in the Job Control)
- you start this job
- the problem occurs

Is that it?

-> Are you sure not to re-use older jobs in the queue? (better clean it up first in order not to mix old and new encodings)

hi,
I re-encode 30x2=60 files and they are named
as number XX01.avi, XX02.avi etc.
I added two of them to a job within VirtualDub.I exited from virtualdub. Then I found the VirtualDub.jobs file. I copied
that job as myvdub.jobs. I edited this file and ran the job from
it.How I edit is very simple (not complex changes):

I copy and paste first two jobs 28 times by only changing the
filename part.Then I run the job.

Even if I did never use the file jobs with copy/paste before, I think the problem might come from here.
There's more than only the filename that changes from a clip/job to another, it seems there is a lot more informations that are related to each specific job/clip.
When you copy/paste, you change the filename, but not the informations related to it...

Can you make a job queue by adding each file one after the others (manually) and report your results? It should work...

EDIT: it might come from the following line ...if your clips do not have the same number of frames...
