Hi.
Will Yamaha s550 play avi files over 2GB? It seems that 2GB is always enough for a mpeg4 movie, but I need to keep two audio tracks of a 3h movie (over 0.5 GB each), so there is only <1GB left for a 3h movie. Do I have to split the file? or maybe there is another possibility?

Thats not possible. You have to split it.

Thanks I suspected that:-)
Is there a reason for this? A firmware problem? a mediatek chipset? file format? dvd being udf with bigger files? Do you know which part is responsible for that?
I had to split files to fit on a CD and now I have to split them on DVD-R :-(( Maybe some kind of index file like the DVD has? to support continous play of splitted files?

I think its most likely just a limitation of the firmware. I dont know any player that support files above 2GB. Only players with the new Sigma chipset should support that, but i have not seen such a player.
The player will jump to the next file automatically, but that needs some time so you have a small break.

As a matter of fact, not to the end...
I thought that if it wasn 't supported, these files would be unplayable...
Do you know otherwise?
Are you saying that the player will only play the file until the 2 Gb marker?
I wiil try today and report back....

Most likely it will stop even before the 2GB limit if the file is bigger than 2GB, dont know why.
But it was always the same with every Mediatek based player. With ESS it is not better. And most of the old Sigma players did not even recognise a UDF formatted dvd.

I believe the Mediatek based Pioneer player (maybe with new firmware) is able to play files above 2GB to the end.
