First let me start off with saying hi to all. The information contained on this site and forum are outstanding and only made possible by all the people willing to take their time to help others and share what they learned.

I applaud you all.

Now for a little background.

I am a communications chief deployed to Iraq. I run 2 internet cafes and handle all communications for a battalion with about 700-900 soldiers. In the internet cafe, which runs 24-7, I have a DVD player for the soldiers to watch while they patiently wait for their turn on the phones or internet.

I am making backups of my DVDs to play in the cafe so that with all the hands touching them (in and out of the player) the original does not get all scratched up or lost. I have been successful with a simple DVD backup copy of my DVDs but I am finding that with the delayed shipping time and the cost of DVD +Rs, that I want to put two backups to one dvd.

I have been successful in putting two movies on one DVD but once I compile the new DVD i am finding some of the audio is not syncing up with the video. It is half way into the movie when the audio starts to drift.

I checked the MPEG2 and the Original VoB files. I also used DVD shrink to burn the original DVD to the HDD. Both the audio works just fine.

Software I am using and the process I am using.

First I Rip the DVDs into MPEG2 format using IMTOO DVD Ripper.
Then I import the MPEG2 files into DVDLABPRO.
DVDLABPRO demuxxes the video and audio and creates a File_48K file.
I put the video and audio into the project and create the menu for them.
I compile the project onto my HDD so i can check it first.
Then i burn onto DVD using Nero 6

If I have issues with the encryption I use DVD Shrink or Nero to copy the DVD to the HDD in VOB format, and then use the process above to make the compilation.

Couple of other things.

I am not concerned with Drive space.
I Rip into MPEG2 because DVDLAB PRO does not like any other format but MPEG
I use DVDLAB PRO because it has a nice easy Menu creation section.
I have tried using the audio offset in DVD LAb .. but i can't get it to fix it.
I have tried to find information using the search in this forum and checking out the guides. I thought I had the process down pat and workin like a champ until now. :p

Other software I have at my disposal (Yes I have spent some money and alot of time trying to get this to work :D)

Pinnicale Studio 9
GKnot
DVD Decrypter
Photoshop CS
Soundforge 7
DVD Clone
Muxman

OK so the questions......

1. How do i fix the audio sync issue halfway through a movie?

2. Is there a better way to do this?

3. is there other software I should use?

Thanks in advance

First if you put 2 movies on one dvd (4.7) you will probably loose quality depending on the size of the movies.

Second you can use DVD Shrink to copy just the Main movie. Edit out as much of the beginning and ending credits as possible using the re-author feature.

Backup the first movie onto you hd then add the first movie to the second before burning. Check the compression level, you'll have to decide what is acceptable quality.

I will have to check that out, but shrink wouldn't give me a menu option would it? or does it create its own menu?

thanks for the idea... gonna play with it today when i get some time

No menu options. There are ways to create menus but I haven't done it.

Here are a few links, you're in for a bit of research. Additionally, run a forum-wide search here at D9. Searching is labor-intensive, I've done all I'm gonna do. :)

Audio sync in DVDlab-Pro from MMBForums. Part of this 44 post thread speaks to audio sync issues concerning files processed by Shrink.

Link to MMBForums, this one tunnels you into the entire forum, should you care to get an overview of the information offered there.

Mediachance site, DVDlab-Pro section. Read all of this info.

Forum links page from the Mediachance DVDlab-Pro section. This is where I found the link to the MMBForums; there's some older information archived that these links will point you to.

Contact some of the distribution houses, given your current position, I'd imagine that some of those guys would jump at the opportunity to supply you with movies, given the market advantage potential of such a move.

And no, Shrink on its own will not give you menu options to jump from title to title, but you can do so with your remote. On further thought, you might want to visit dvdshrink.info's guides page and check on what can and can't be done with Shrink. The Shrink Compilation Guide (http://www.dvdshrink.info/compilation.php) may be of some use.

bongoman31--Even though your political statement was soft, I've edited it out. Any political statement, even uttered in a room full of friends, has the potential to turn into a brawl, let alone one submitted to an international forum. Read this sticky from the General Discussion forum. The war on Iraq and political discussions (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49457).

It could be construed that Army Geek's description of his duties constitutes a political comment, but I have not interpreted it in that fashion. I believe he gave his job description as background for his request, plain and simple. We'll leave this thread open, for now, but please keep the responses clean. Any hint of flaming or conflict and we'll close this immediately, with strikes possibly merited.

[Edit] Each time I do this, it gives me the opportunity to insert a link to ieSpell (http://www.iespell.com). It's a good little tool for the spelling-impaired....like, me. :)

WOW what a bunch of info .. thanks ammck

i stopped looking for other forums once i got to doom9... he he

seems others are having the same problem with DVD LAB Pro

sync issue with the video and audio...i am guessing its the Demux process in the program.

Some have tried to demux the video and audio using other programs and it still does not sync properly.

anyways... back to the boards...

Just as additional info.. my plan is once i get the combining of 2 DVD movies onto one disk with menus... to do this with all my dvds.. even once i return to the states....

I am just so tired of DVDs getting scratched and messed up.

8-)

thanks to all

HI Gang,

Sorry I have not been back sooner... Alot of stuff going on out here.

I wanted to thank Ammck for all the help he has given me.

I have not cracked this egg yet. But really I have not had much time to tinker.

As Ammck and jggimi Suggested I may have to resign myself to making a basic DVD Backup.

Also I will be contacting various companies to see what they can donate... 8-).. again another suggestion from Ammck and jggimi.

BUT as a matter of principle and stubborness.. I have not given up... THEY WILL BEND TO MY WILL.... 8-)

ok back to work i go....8-P

Hi gang.

First thanks again to all in the forums. Bongo for the DVD Rs and Ammck and jggimi for the info and other ideas.

Just a short update. I tried contacting some of the movie companies.. and got littleorno response... but Ihave not given up.

AS for the Project I was working on.

I found that DVD LAB PRO accepts VOB files as an import. And if you don't demux them and you join the VOBs into one, that you can successfully import the main movie with NO AUDIO sync problems.

Now I have not figured out how to combine 2 DVDS totally intact with a separate menu... BUt that was a side project and not my main intention.

So I have gotten 2 movies with my own custom menu and custom scene selection onto one disk with no issues.

I know I could import the scene selection from the original DVDs and that is something I will play with later...

My main focus was to take 2 of my DVD movies and put them on one disk so that the originals stay in pristine condition.

THANKS to all
