"Secondary IDE Channel no 80 Conductor Cable was Disabled"

-what does this message mean? I get it now when I try to reboot my computer after installing things from this site for DVD burning. My computer will not start up. Someone help!

Hi,

what's connected to your secondary IDE channel? I would expect that sort of message when you want to use your drives in U-DMA/133 mode without the required 80-pin cable (40 of the 80 wires are used for shielding).

What generates the message? Your BIOS? Your OS? Try starting up in safe mode (if it is Windows) or try disabling udma133 in your BIOS, if it is enabled there.

also what programs did you install?

on the DVD2SVCD site, I installed:
ASPI Drivers for Win XP

Along with all the other programs on the "AVI2SVCD Guide" (including CCE SP) - I also had Rebuilder, TMPGEnc, DVDDecrypter, VirtualDub, and about a thousand codecs installed- so who knows what caused it.

It doesn't matter anyway, I threw my hard drive out (it's 4 years old)-- time to restart- I'm gonna go get a new one today- any suggestions?

I had an 80-pin cable that came with my dru-710a-- so whatever caused the problem had to be windows related- I just hope when I get my new hard drive I don't encounter the same error- if I do I'm going to be very "t'd" off.
